Cyclopean Isles, Aci Trezza

Discover the Ionian Sea on a sailing trip from Catania. Sail past the Castle of Aci Castello, marvel at the centuries-old lava flow rocks, and go for a dip in the refreshing water. After meeting the skipper at the port of Catania, board your sailboat and head towards Aci Trezza. As you sail, learn about the terrain and history of the area from your guide. Cruise by rocks created by ancient lava flowing into the sea and spot the plants hardy enough to grow there. Continue past the Castle of Aci Castello, jutting into the sea on a teetering cliff. Once you reach Aci Trezza, dive into the water for a refreshing swim. Use the snorkeling gear on board to spot tropical fish, or try your hand at stand-up paddleboarding. After returning to the boat, enjoy a glass of Italian Bubbles and some local appetizers like flavored cheese, dry tomatoes, cold cuts, and bread with creams before sailing back to Catania Port.

Leaving from the port of Catania you will pass and admire black volcanic rocks before making your first stop for your first swim and maybe a bit of snorkeling. Back on board you will be served a rich appetizer with typical sicilian local products: home made bread, local cheese, vegetables in oil and Sicilian pistachio specialties. Then you will head towards Aci Trezza and here you will have the chance to admire the amazing coast with the ancient Arab lookouts along the coast, built with volcanic rock centuries ago. You will see from up close the faraglioni of Aci Trezza, with the volcano Etna always in the background. All from a unique perspective that only the boat can give! You will be back to Catania port. the tour has a duration of 4 hours and you can choose between 2 times: the morning option or the sunset option. The boat is a Bavaria 46. After the registration procedure and safety information we begin the adventure on our fabulous sailing boats from 43 to 49 feet. This is a Full Day (6hours) sailing experience where we will offer you Prosecco, Aperitif and Pasta Lunch. Go beyond the city center and explore panoramic coastal roads while hearing the stories and legends of the area from your expert guide. Then, arrive at Aci Castello, and marvel at the Norman castle built high up on the rock with spectacular views of the sea. Next stop: Aci Trezza. The observation of cetaceans carried out with Marecamp presupposes compliance with the international code of good conduct approved by the Agreement on the Conservation of Cetaceans of the Black Sea, the Mediterranean Sea and the contiguous Atlantic area (ACCOBAMS). The offer is open to nature lovers, those who dream of meeting dolphins in their natural habitat, and sea and photography enthusiasts. It consists of daily eco-tours (minimum 2,5 hours and maximum 4,5 hours) by dinghy or sailing boat in the Gulf of Catania. Depending on the season, weather conditions and the daily number of participants, our boats set sail from the ports of Catania or Aci Castello (during the autumn-winter season we depart only from Catania). Once on board our boat with skippers and marine biologists, we will go out to sea with the precious information provided on the area explored and the species present. We will look at the horizon, proceeding at low cruising speed in search of a fin, a breath, a jump and any useful clue on the water's surface that signals the presence of animals. The biologists will answer all your marine curiosities, and you will help them fill out the on-board survey forms to collect environmental data. Once the first dolphins have been spotted, we will approach the pod following an international code of conduct that allows us to observe the natural behaviour of the animals, reducing the disturbance we cause to a minimum. They will show you their inevitable aerial behaviour, while you will be ready to immortalise them with photos and videos. Finally, we will leave the pod and return home, remembering what incredible wonder the sea has just given us. Meeting dolphins in the open sea is not easy, so we will have on board the best marine biologists and observers thanks to which our probability of sighting will be very high even if not 100%. In the event of a missed sighting, your contribution will not be reimbursed, you will have nevertheless experienced a pleasant experience at sea. For reasons of animal disturbance and safety of passengers dropped close to wild predators, we will never offer you to swim close to a whale or a dolphin.
