Full description
Start with pickup from your hotel in Cusco and travel to Ollantaytambo Station to board the train to Aguas Calientes. This is the nearest town to Machu Picchu. Enjoy a scenic train journey through dramatic Andean landscapes. The train has ample seats with large windows allowing for grand views of the surrounding jungle and mountains.  Board a coach for a 25-minute ride to Machu Picchu. The city of Machu Pichu is believed to have been built in the 1450s by the Inca emperor Pachacuti as a holiday retreat. Within a century the city would be abandoned following the Spanish conquest. The Spaniards never found it, so it was spared the destruction they brought on other Inca sites. Instead, it was slowly swallowed up by the jungle and hidden from harm. Take a guided tour of the site which explains the origins behind this awe-inspiring citadel and its most prominent landmarks such as the monumental Main Square, the Royal Quarters, the Temple of the Three Windows, the Circular Towers, the Sacred Sun Dial, and the Burial Grounds. After the tour, be returned to Aguas Calientes where you can take some free time to explore the city, or enjoy an optional lunch.  After some time in the town, return to Aguas Calientes station to take the train back to the Ollantaytambo Station, from there you will be taken back to your hotel.

I 1000% recommend this tour, with superior category train. This was an amazing experience from start to finish! Starting with the booking process, Monica was very helpful in making sure we had all documents ready for the trip. Luis, who came by our hotel the day before, made sure my sister and I understood every part of our journey, answered every question, and were prepared with all the correct tickets. He also met us in the morning and was there to greet us when we returned from our day. The scenic ride from Cusco to the train station was nice. Our guides for the day, Wilson and Edgar were patient and made sure we were safe every step of the way. the Vistadome train ride was really a step above. What an amazing ride! Francisco was the absolute best, the dancers were lively and the violin was a beautiful touch. After touring Machu Picchu, we had a light lunch with stunning views. We did not have to worry about a thing and we were able to spend the entire day stress free and happy.

We were delighted to be able to discover its wonderful landscapes, however, we are slightly disappointed by the guide's explanations which turn out to be approximate; All statements are made up of theory. We had hoped to discover a culture that was foreign to us before coming to Peru. This wish was not fulfilled.

This was a wonderful experience. Doing it through a package deal is the way to go. I had planned to organize it on my own, but getting there is a bit of an ordeal. Its 1 hour Luxury Van ride from cusco to the train station, 1.5 hours on the train to the town of Machu Picchu, 30 min bus trip up the mountain to Machu Picchu. Having someone take care of all of that was really nice. Great Experience.
