Full description

Witness Rainbow Mountain in all its glory, take some photos and explore the area on a day trip from Cusco with a guide. Set out on an adventure in the early morning with a hotel pickup. Head up the mountain, cross small villages, immerse yourself in the local culture, and have lunch after your hike.

Begin your full-day tour in Cusco city, where you will be picked up between 4:15 AM and 4:45 AM. You will then drive in a comfortable van for 3 hours to the town of Cusipata, where you will have breakfast in a local family house. Following breakfast, head to the starting point of your hike. There are approximately 3 kilometers of flat land uphill, leading to the majestic "Mountain of Colors".

The hike will take about 1.5 hours, depending on your level of fitness. Along the way, enjoy panoramic views of the valleys, wild llamas, alpacas, and vicuñas, as well as of the Andes and the nearby glaciers.  Once here, if the weather is good, get the first views of Rainbow Mountain. At the top, take a well-deserved break, which will also be your chance to catch your breath and enjoy the stunning views.

After taking beautiful photos, begin your descent, where you will enjoy a delicious lunch upon your return. You will then take private transportation back to Cusco, where you will arrive at approximately 5:00 PM.

Very tiring but cool experience. The ride is super bumpy. They pick you up outside your hotel if you’re in the main square. We got picked up at 4:30 AM and didn’t reach Rainbow Mountain until 8 AM. The complimentary breakfast and lunch was very basic/mediocre but it’s understandable. I would’ve paid a little more for better quality though. You’ll see a lot of horses on standby once you reach the first bathroom/rest stop (20 minutes in). It’s about 30 USD per person to go up and we’re very glad we chose this! The horse doesn’t take you all the way up, so you have to walk up the last stretch which is very steep but only takes about 10 minutes. The horse ride is cheaper going down, about 10 USD per person. Final thoughts - If you have a day to spare and don’t mind a work out, go for it. This tour is worth the price. Food and entrance fee is included, and most importantly, the transfer service. FYI: The mountain isn’t nearly as vibrant as you see in pictures.

It's a great experience. Quite a physical challenge but with infinite satisfaction. We did the entire route on foot but there is the possibility of doing it on horseback (this is not included and they charge you between 90-20 soles depending on where you take the horse, since they offer it to you at different points along the way). Another important thing is that if you take the horse there is a point where you have to walk up because they don't go up, they are about 500 meters but very vertical. We have come in winter and you have to wear cold clothes for the first few hours, then a backpack to take off when you walk and there is sun and when you are upstairs it is very cold again. Spectacular views! The very attentive guide all the way. Breakfast a little poor but the food back very good. Totally recommended!!! Beware: The transport moves a lot and the road uphill looks dangerous. PS: do not plan anything else that day because you arrive very tired.

Beautiful views and worth the walk. But be prepared for it being very difficult with a high altitude. You must acclimatise in Cusco, but still it is hard at 5000m. It’s also very cold in the morning, around 2C. There is a buffet breakfast stop on the way and lunch on the way back after a very early hotel collection
