Our guide (David) was excellent - on the way to the tunnels, he told us about the history of the wars in Vietnam and how the different sides inter-played through history. Whilst at the tunnels, we got to experience what it was like to physically be inside them. We also saw bomb craters, traditional Viet Cong dress, traps (working examples!) armouries and kitchens. Parts of this trip are distressingly barbaric. There is an AK47 shooting range at the end but this is not an included activity - 60,000VND per bullet, minimum 10 bullets (i.e. minimum 600,000 VND). There is a cafe which sells snacks and cold beer at the end which was very welcome in the heat. I couldn’t help feeling sorry for the American tourists in our group as the language used was often quite accusatory and this is not appropriate. This is a really great value tour - highly recommended if you are in HCMC.

The experience itself is pretty good to be fair and informative - nothing like squeezing down the Tunnels to give you some genuine empathy and understanding. Our guide was quite good to be fair and impartial in his presentation. I thought the shooting experience offered was unnecessary and a money spinne - and a stop at a shop was an unwanted sales pitch. Otherwise, we'll worth doing.

Four of us went on the Cu Chi Tunnels Afternoon tour. We were picked up from our nearest Vietnam Adventure Tours in Ho Chi Minh. It was about 2.5-3 hours to drive from Ho Chi Minh to the Cu Chi Tunnels. Our tour guide's name was Duc. He provided elaborate explanations and was very knowledgeable about these underground tunnels used during the Vietnam War.
