Full description

Stop to purchase a hearty breakfast in Rethymno on this full-day Samaria Gorge excursion. Begin your trek at Xiloskalo, where you'll enter the vast, 18-kilometer canyon. Hike along a path that follows the route of the ancient Taras River. Admire the caves that formed a natural shelter for the Cretans in war times and now are home to wild goats. See the abandoned village of Samaria before reaching the Iron Gates, 3 kilometers before the end of the gorge. Rest and enjoy lunch (at your own expense) at the small fishing village of Agia Roumeli. Cool off with a refreshing swim in the Libyan Sea before boarding the ship that takes you back to the village of Sfakia.

We spent the day with our colleague Pedro, a great smiling and very friendly guide. The day started at 6 a.m. and ended at 10:30 p.m. The hike is quite long and a little dangerous without good shoes. We took 5 hours to do the 16km. The river is very beautiful. We advise you to take the tour and the ferry that takes us back is super big with lots of shadows

Very nice guide very very long day of spar 5h return 10:30 p.m. I start again for those who like hiking and Have real hiking shoes because this descent is very difficult I do not recommend to children under 12 because it is intense, several stops with drinking water fountains and shaded corners with table and toilets. The gorges are super beautiful, we escape with its river and its animals. The hike is 16km with 1200 vertical drop and lasts 4/5h I repeat have good hiking shoes not your sneakers to run or other and do not hesitate to follow the guide or the river because there are not many signs it is only worth crossing the gorges good hike

A very beautiful hike. Be sure to wear sturdy hiking shoes that support the ankle as the ground is very uneven. This time I went with sandals and it was not optimal. I would have liked for us to start the hike no later than 8.30 instead of at ten o'clock. This time I was not well trained so it took 7 hours to walk the 13km from the top to the exit of the park. We didn't have time to swim or eat before further transport by boat. Last time it took just over 4 hours, but then I had a better trained body as I ran at least a mile a week. I then had better strength in the muscles and the stabilizing tendons, especially in the ankle. Have fluid replacement and an energy-rich lunch bag with you. If the water runs out, spring water is available at some rest areas.
