Full description
Discover Imbros Gorge, which runs parallel to the more famous Samaria Gorge. Although the Imbros Gorge is smaller, many people prefer to cross here because it offers a very different hiking experience than the Samaria Gorge. After your tour, enjoy a refreshing swim in the sea and lunch at a village taverna. Enjoy hotel pickup and arrive at Imbros around 10 AM. Have breakfast and then hike about 2.5 hours to discover the beauty of this narrow natural passage. Learn about the rock formations and the legend of the 2 brothers that Imbros is named after. For many years, the Imbros Gorge served as part of the trail that connected Chania to Hora Sfakion. Stroll through a piece of World War II history, as you walk where thousands of British soldiers passed through after the Battle of Crete to get to Egypt.  End your hike in Komitades Village and then depart for Sfakia. Take a swim in the refreshing Libyan Sea and eat lunch with the locals in the taverns before returning to your hotel.

Bus ride was beautiful and scenic, gorge hike a lot of fun. The drinks served from a well at the halfway point was fun and quirky. The unexpected highlight of the tour was the absolutely PERFECT beach at the end of the Gorge. I could have stayed there five hours longer. Don’t miss swimming and sunning here.

We booked the tour at 7:25 from Rethymno and were picked up at 7:20. The Sprinter had a reasonably functioning air conditioning system. The gorge is 7.2 km long with a descent of 700 meters (duration approx. 2 to 3 hours). Sturdy shoes are recommended. The guide spoke English, which was enough to arrange a meeting point. After 3.8 km there is a rest stop with a "loo" (a hole with a water hose for flushing) where you can buy drinks. After the gorge you can eat in a tavern or, by arrangement with the group, drive directly to a town 15 minutes away to spend the afternoon on the beach (2 loungers cost €6) or again in a tavern. Overall, the gorge was impressive and cooling off in the sea was necessary, but the trip was a bit long in the heat. Two tours were combined for us, so we still had to pick up the other group (1 hour detour) and were back at the hotel at 6 p.m. Otherwise a great day with nice memories.

The gorge is cool to have seen, super beautiful. Have breakfast in a super nice place and then go for a walk. I had expected a little more from the guide, because he didn't follow along. At the end of the gorge there was a cute spot where you could have a drink. The tour bus was broken down which meant a taxi had to be arranged for our friend with a sore foot to ride along. We had to pay for this taxi ourselves; and the driver was pretty drunk! When the bus was made we went to a super nice village where you could also swim. A different village than planned because we had too little time due to the broken bus. All in all, the bus and guide don't really add anything. It is cheaper to arrange a taxi (with a group) and go yourself.
