Lovely day spent walking the gorge, Nikos was very helpful too and explained everything clearly. Overall excellent day out make sure you wear proper hiking boots as struggled in basic trainers. The scenery was absolutely stunning.

It was nice to have transportation arranged and easy to catch for our day-long Samariá Gorge hike. Our guide, Ingrid, gave us helpful information about the trail and terrain on the way there, and some interesting facts about the area on the way home. We hiked by ourselves which was good, the guide follows in the back in case anybody has issues. You will need to bring cash in order to pay for the ferry ticket home (€14). You can pay the entrance fee to the park by card or cash, it's €10. We were also able to rent poles through the company for €3 per pole and would highly recommend it--it's a lot of downhill so it definitely saved our knees. There are plenty of water and bathrooms on the trail, you would be fine with one water bottle. Definitely bring food/snacks though because it is a long day. The hike was exhausting but beautiful and the dip in the Libyan Sea at the end was refreshing.

Full description

Embark on a guided hike in the Samariá Gorge on a day trip from Rethymno or Chania. Get your daily dose of exercise, enjoy the panoramic views and take a swim. 
Discover the longest gorge in Europe, an area of stunning natural beauty. See its many flowers and herbs and the crystal-clear spring waters that flow from the mountains.

Following an early morning pickup from the nearest point to your accommodation in Rethymno or Chania, travel through the mountains passing the plateau of Omalos.

Arrive at some wooden stairs at the start of Samariá Gorge. You can opt to start the walk straight away or get some breakfast at the taverna before you begin. Hike for approximately 6-7 hours and experience the magnificent landscape on a 16-kilometer walk.

Once you have finished the hike, there will be ample time for a swim and lunch at a taverna in Agia Roumeli.
