On this 2.25-hour tour, explore the native village of Saxman with its 29 authentic hand-carved totem poles, a master carving center, and village store. Watch master crafters at work and learn the history and traditions behind this practice. Next, head south to Herring Cove for wildlife viewing. In the summer during salmon spawning season, hungry bears, bald eagles, blue herring, and harbor seals can often be spotted in this beautiful riverside cove.

This tour is in scenic downtown Ketchikan in the Thomas Basin historic district, home to the salmon fishing fleet and crab fishing boats. You will be hosted at the Great Alaskan Lumberjack Show Arena and Harbor Haus Pavilion, landmarks of industry, food, and entertainment. Your tour starts at the historic site of the Spruce Mill, once the largest Sitka spruce mill in the world, and now the home to the Great Alaskan Lumberjack Show. This world-famous Lumberjack Show has world champion athletes in a rowdy, no-holds-barred competition with 12 events, including chopping, climbing, sawing, axe throwing, and log rolling. Hang on to the edge of your seats for a rowdy good time. Just a few steps away, the Harbor Haus will be your destination to experience the most pristine Dungeness crab feast. While looking out over the harbor filled with commercial fishing boats, watch as the daily catch is brought to the docks. Enjoy an all-you-can eat Dungeness crab feast accompanied by salad, baby red potatoes, and carrot cake. After the tour, you are in downtown Ketchikan, surrounded by totem poles, Creek Street, jumping salmon, and shopping.

Pass by Herring Cove, a popular spot for bear viewing, and Creek Street, a historic boardwalk with shops and restaurants. Drive by Saxman Native Village, a Tlingit village with a collection of totem poles. (Optional) Stop at Ward Lake for a moderate hike or just take in the scenic views. Walk through the forest and keep an eye out for wildlife. Afterward, return to the cruise ship dock.

The Harbor Haus will be your destination to experience the most pristine Dungeness Crab feast. While looking out over the harbor filled with commercial fishing boats, watch as the daily catch is brought to the docks. Your meal includes salad with Asian-style dressing, all-you-can-eat Dungeness Crab, baby red potatoes, and delicious carrot cake! Enjoy views of Ketchikan Creek, Thomas Basin, and Deer Mountain. After the meal, you are within downtown Ketchikan, surrounded by totem poles, Creek Street, jumping salmon and shopping.

You will meet your private guide at the cruise ship dock to begin your private excursion. From here you can sit back and relax in a new 15-passenger Ford Transit van, complete with captain chairs. You can enjoy the beautiful 10-mile coastal drive north to Potlatch Park. Once there you will discover a wonderful collection of historical exhibits and totem poles, which showcase the work of the native tribes. Your guide will narrate the stories and legends of the totems, and you'll get to experience what an 1800's native fishing village would have been like. Next, check out the carving shed, where master carvers created new poles, antique rifles, and vintage cars, at the nearby museums. On the way back towards town you will observe canneries, ruminants of a floating logging camp, and boat harbors. Once at Herring Cove, your guide will lead you to wildlife viewing areas, where black bears, bald eagles, herons and salmon are often spotted. As you head back to Ketchikan, keep an eye out for whales, seals and eagles. Your guide will point out Creek Street's "Red Light District", explaining the history of bootlegging and the story of "Dolly's House". At the end of your tour, you may choose to end at Creek Street to do some shopping (where transportation to your next destination will be on your own), or your driver/guide will take you directly back to the cruise dock from where you started.
