Full description
You will be picked up early in the morning from your hotel, cruise port or other preferred location on Corfu island. Then, you will board the ferry to Igoumenitsa and on arrival, drive to Meteora. After almost 2 hours, you arrive at Meteora. A trip to Meteora offers the unique experience of nature’s grandeur in conjunction with history, architecture and man’s everlasting desire to connect with the divine. Meteora is a truly inspiring and sensational setting of overwhelming rock formations, but one must also be prepared to expect that this trip is much more than merely visiting an exquisite landscape. It is a pilgrimage to a holy place for all Christians around the world. Meteora has become a preservation ark for the 2000-year-old Christian Orthodox creed. The gigantic rocks of Meteora are perched above the town of Kalambaka, at a maximum height of 400 m. Only 6 monasteries have made it through the centuries, from an initial estimated number of 24. Mostly dating from the 14th to the 16th century, these monasteries were built by monks who were previously hermits in the area, living in individual caves. Once united, these monks took months and years to carry the construction material to the top of the rocks, using ropes, folding ladders, nets, baskets and much determination. After a long worthwhile experience exploring Meteora, you will make the journey back to Corfu and to your hotel.

Long journey from Corfu

They was a hidden cost - we did not expect to pay for the boat crossing for each person - we thought that was included in the payment for the trip. Beautiful place - we felt safe with the driver and guide; and despite the bad weather on the day, we were still able to make the most of the situation. Because of the long journey, there is not a lot of time to be spent at Meteora but this is to be expected given the location of Corfu.

What disappointed me was that I had to pay an extra € 130 and € 187 extra for the ferry. You can indicate this more clearly when booking.
