Full description

Learn more about the 8th-century caliphate of Abd al-Rahman I on a guided tour the Mosque-Cathedral of Cordoba with an art historian guide.

Hear about the monument's different stages of construction, from the old Basilica of San Vicente, built during the Spanish Visigoth empire through the primitive mosque built by Abd al-Rahman I to rival the great mosques of the East.

Explore successive extensions through to the time of Almanzor, ruler of Muslim Iberia under the Umayyad Caliphate of Cordoba.

Hear about the Reconquista of Cordoba by the Christian armies of Fernando III, when the mosque was converted into a cathedral.

Admire architectural motifs, such as the double arches that gave the building height and were considered revolutionary for their time.

A superb tour guide, an academic steeped in the knowledge of the Mesquita, it was just fantastic. Only minor note. I was so absorbed by the tour, I didn’t dwell too long as the tour continued and did not take photos. The tour finished outside the Mesquita, and there is no chance to return and absorb and dwell in your own time. I copped on, and stayed within the building. Much to the annoyance of the security guards, as my husband raced out to rerun the hearing sets. It’s an extraordinary building. Visit!

For the price versus buying a ticket or listening to a recorded audio guide, I'd say it's definitely worth it. I enjoyed our guide but my wife had trouble understanding our guides accent much more than I did and she ended up turning off her headphones. Otherwise for me, it was 5 stars

It was really worth doing this guided tour. The guide Olivia was extraordinary, provided clear and objective explanations, knowing how to communicate and interact with the group. Without this guidance, the visit would not have been even close, it was undoubtedly enriching and constructive, and allowed time travel. would repeat.
