Cordillera Huayhuash

The 8-day Cordillera Huayhuash Trek is the complete route but in fewer days than normal, since we will not reach the Viconga thermal baths. There are 8 high passes to cross, the highest being the Trapezium Pass at 5020 meters. The number of nights spent sleeping above 4000 meters and the number of high passes that must be crossed each day qualify this adventure hike as difficult. We recommend that you have a good level of physical fitness and be well acclimatized before committing to this incredible adventure of the full tour to Huayhuash. Day 1: Huaraz - Cuartelhuain (4,180 m.) - Cacanan Punta Pass (4,700 m.) - Mitucocha (4,230 m.) Transportation transfer to Cuartelhuain approximately 4 hours. starting point of the walk. » Walking Time: 5 to 6 hours approx. » Campsite: Mitucocha (4,230 m) Day 2: Mitucocha (4,230 m.) - Carhuac Pass “Yanapunta” (4,650 m.) - Carhuacocha Lagoon (4,140 m.) » Walking Time: 5 to 6 hours approx. » Campsite: Carhuacocha (4140 m) Day 3: Carhuacocha Lagoon (4,140 m.) - Siula Pass (4,800 m.) - Huayhuash (4,350 m.) This day we will ascend towards the Siula pass at an altitude of 4,800m. From here we appreciate the mountains of Siula, Yerupaja Grande and Yerupaja Chico and the 3 famous lagoons of Huayhuash. » Walking Time: 7 to 8 hours approx. » Campsite: Huayhuash (4350m) Day 4: Huayhuash – Trapeze Pass (5,000 m.) – Elephant camp (4,560 m.) » Walking Time: 5 to 6 hours approx. » Campsite: Cuyocpampa (4560 m) Day 5: Cuyocpampa (4,560 m.) - Santa Rosa Pass (5,070 m.) Huayllapa (3,600 m.) This day we will ascend towards the Santa Rosa Pass 5070 m a.s.l. to have an impressive view of the highest mountains of Huayhuash, Laguna Jurao and Sarapococha. » Walking Time: 8 to 9 hours approx. » Campsite: Huayllapa (3500 m) Day 6: Huayllapa (3,600 m.) - Tapush pass (4,770 m.) - Gashpapampa (4,570 m.) This day we will walk upwards and thus leave the town of Huayllapa behind. » Walking Time: 5 to 6 hours approx. » Campsite: Gashpapampa (4570 m) Day 7: Gashpapampa (4,570 m.) - Punta Yauche pass (4,850 m.) - Jahuacocha Lagoon (4,100 m.) » Walking Time: 5 to 6 hours approx. » Campsite: Jahuacocha (4100 m) Day 8: Jahuacocha Lagoon - Jahuapunta pass (4,650 m.) - Pocpa (3500 m.) - Huaraz After saying goodbye to our muleteers we will board our transportation towards Huaraz. » Walking Time: 4 to 5 hours approx. (3 hours by bus)

Day 01: Huaraz - Chiquian - Llamac - Cuartelhuain 4180 msnm. From there the walk begins passing through the first pass of Cacananpunta 4,700 meters above sea level. From there you can see the Pucacocha and Yanacocha lagoons, the walk lasts between 4 to 5 hours to the Janca camp at 4,230 meters above sea level. From the camp you can see Nevado Ninashanca 5,607 m, Nevado Rondoy 5,870 m and Nevado Jirishanca 6,094 m. Day 02: Mitucocha 4,230 msnm - Carhuacocha 4,280 msnm That day the second pass Carhuac 4,650 m From the camp you climb a slope of 420 m. From the pass you can see the north face of Nevado Carnicero 5,960 m. Nevado Suila 6,344 m SnowyYerupaja 6,634 m and Nevado Toro. That day it takes about 5 to 6 hours to Carhuacocha camp with a view of the snow-capped mountains. Day 03: Carhuacocha 4,280 msnm - Huayhuash 4,300 msnm It is the hardest day of trekking where you walk between 7 to 8 hours (approx.) The path leads between the lagoons to the viewpoint where you can see the tree lagoons of different colors such as Laguna Siulacocha, Laguna Quesillocohca and Laguna Gangrajanca. From a viewpoint in an hour and a half you reach the Siula pass 4,800 meters above sea level. Day 04: Huayhuash 4,300 msnm - Elephant 4,450 msnm That day we reached the Trapecio pass 5040 meters above sea level. From the campsite you climb a slope of 700 m. The walk takes 7 to 8 hours (approx.) Day 05: Elephant 4,450 msnm - Cutatambo 4,300 msnm That day you cross the Santa Rosa Pass 5,100 meters above sea level. From the camp you climb a slope of 650 m. From the pass you can see the Jurahucocha lagoon, the Sarapo snow-capped mountain, the Rasac snow-capped mountain, and the Siula Grande snow-capped mountain. Day 6: Cutatambo 4300 msl - Huayllapa 3500 msl This day we will make a 4 hour descent to the village of huayllapa, where you can buy drinks, wifi, hot showers. Day 7: Climb 3,630 msnm. - Gashpapampa 4,550 msnm. That day I conquer the Tapush pass 4,800 msnm. Descent from Huayllapa 1,170 m. up to the pass after 10 minutes walk is observed the famous Snowy Devil Mute 5,350 msnm. On the trek it takes 06 to 07 hours till camp. Day 8: Gashpapampa 4,550 msl.- Jahuacocha Lagoon 4,050 msl. The penultimate Yaucha pass is passed at 4,800 msnm. Campground descent 480 m. The hike lasts 04 to 05 hours to Jahuacocha lagoon, where you can observe the snows mentioned on the first day. Day 9: Jahuacocha 4050 msnm (rest day) This day we will do a short hike to a lagoon called solterococha about 4 hours round trip, then in the afternoon we will have a pachamanca (typical food of the Andes based on mutton) Day 10: Jahuacocha 4,050 msl - Jahuapunta 4650 msl - Pocpa 3500 msl It is the last day of hike of,l group and we will reach the pass of Jahuapunta from where you have the last view of the mountain huayhuash, then we will descend to the village of Pocpa, where awaits the transport for transfer to the city of Huaraz and hotel.

Day 01: Huaraz - Llamac - Cuartelhuain - Rondoy Pick up from your hotel at 08:00 am and then head towards the village of Chiquián, enjoying views of the Huayhuash mountain range. From Chiquián we begin to descend to a field where we will find cactus and bushes and then we head towards the town of Llamac arriving at 12:00am where we will enjoy lunch. We will pass through the hamlet of Pocpa and then cross the new road from Llamac to Cuartelhuain. Until we arrive to our first campsite in Rondoy. Day 02: Rondoy - Sambunya Pass - Jahuacocha Lagoon This day begins with a demanding hike, you will get wonderful panoramic views. Then we ascend to the valley of Rondoy. Already in the Rondoy and Sambunya pass at 15,584 feet, then we descend to the beautiful Jahuacocha Lagoon. We will camp on the shores of this lagoon. Day 03: Free day in Jahuacocha Lagoon We stay one more day in Laguna Jahuacocha. We can hike 2 hours to the Yaucha pass to observe beautiful landscapes and enjoy a day of rest and go trout fishing. Day 04: Jahuacocha - Pampa Llamac Pass - Llamac - Huaraz This day starts very early to have a descent for an average of one hour, then we start our ascent to Pampa Llamac. From this point we will have our final views of the Huayhuash mountain range. Then we will begin to descend to return to the valley and the town of Llamac. Here a vehicle will be waiting for us to take us to Huaraz.We arrive in Huaraz at approximately 16:00 hours.
