Enjoy a scenic sightseeing tour of North Sealand on a day tour from Copenhagen. Visit the royal monuments of Kronborg Castle and Frederiksborg Castle, as well as the World Heritage site of Roskilde Cathedral. Start with pickup from your hotel in central Copenhagen and travel to the North Sealand region. First, discover Kronborg Castle situated on the banks of the Sund between Denmark and Sweden. Learn about its fascinating history and how it inspired Elsinore in Shakespeare’s “Hamlet.” Then, soak up the romantic setting of Frederiksborg Castle in Hillerød, surrounded by a beautiful lake and gardens. Head next to Roskilde, the former capital of Denmark. Visit Roskilde Cathedral, the burial site of 39 Danish kings and queens, including Ingrid of Sweden, spouse of Denmark’s Frederick IX, father of the current Queen Margrethe II. Explore the Viking Ship Museum to see rebuilt models and excavated ships from the days when the Vikings rampaged their way through much of Western Europe and the North Atlantic. After a day of exploration, relax on the return journey to Copenhagen.

Know before you go

  • The trip involves steep stairs and considerable walking
  • Tours are semi-guided meaning that the guide will drive you to each site and provide all the background information that you need. The guide will walk with you around Roskilde Cathedral and Kronborg Castle. At the other sites, you walk around at your own pace
  • Audio guides are available at Frederiksborg Palace. All guides are local academics with a very solid knowledge of the country and its history as well as the details of the sites
  • Unfortunately, this tour is not suited for people with mobility problems due to many steep stairs and long walking distances
  • Between November and March and most of April, the tour does not include a visit to the Cathedral's interior but rather a walk around the impressive structure and an introduction to the Cathedral's place in history

This is a fantastic tour with 4 tops sights in one day. Thomas was a friendly and knowledgeable guide. It’s all day but the pace is great - you spend long enough in each place and then have the convenience of just getting back on the bus to be taken to the next sight. Much easier than trying to do it yourself.
