What to Expect
On this full-day adventure from Montevideo you will experience the 17th-Century Portuguese city of Colonia del Sacramento to see old architecture influenced by Spanish and Portuguese settlers, and learn of the many historic conflicts that took place in the city over the centuries.

Never has there been a better time to visit this old architectural city, declared a site of Historical Patrimony of Humanity by UNESCO. The full day tour gives you a more in-depth chance to learn the history behind the historic sites, and the conflicts that took place here from the constant change of rule in Uruguay.

You will pass along stone-paved streets, pass historic building and see museums that show their Spanish and Portuguese influences. See the Portón de Campo, the old wooden drawbridge of the old city, and the stone Basilica del Sanctísimo Sacramento.

Take time to explore Portuguese naval adventures at the Portuguese Museum and stop off at the Iglesia Matriz, the oldest church in Uruguay.

You will tour Colonia del Sacramento’s Barrio Histórico and see the modern expansions.

Gaze at the boats in the port, which for years operated as a contraband port, evading the strictures imposed on trade by the Spanish crown. Continue to stop at Uruguay’s beautiful Fernando Beach and enjoy a moment of relaxation as the waves crash onto the beach.

Move on to Reserva Forestal to see a wide variety of animals and the amazing plant-life that grows in Uruguay.

Afterwards you will visit the Real de San Carlos Bull Fighting Arena, which opened on January 9th 1910, but only hosted a total of 8 fights before bull fighting was prohibited by the Uruguayan government in 1912.

You will then return to Montevideo for your hotel drop-off, a journey of approximately 125 miles along the coast of the Rio de la Plata as it spills out in to the Atlantic Ocean.
