My husband and I had a great day with our guide, Mario, and his spotter Julietta (she was on the lookout for monkeys, sloths, etc.) I learned a lot about the history & geography of Panama. Saw the Aqua Clara locks, watched the short movie there and watched a large ship move through the locks from Gatun Lake. We loved seeing Fort Lorenzo and reading about the history there. Mario was a fun and knowledgeable host and guide. We saw both a two & thee toed sloth and a family of howler monkeys in the tree tops, two types of hawks and an iguana. Our group was small, 6 guests, and were picked up at our hotel. Perfect day!
Enjoyed seeing the expanded locks at Agua Clara, going across the Canal via ferry and driving back across the locks (which soon will be replaced by a bridge), and seeing wildlife on the drive. We stopped at a grocery store towards the beginning of the trip to buy snacks. The tour bought water at that stop and later provided watermelon. Juliette the driver made sure we saw a sloth and many birds and monkeys, while our guide Elvis shared some info on the drive about the Canal and came into the fort with us. Both were very friendly. Wish that this tour also included a boat ride across Lake Gatun!
The tour was better than expected and was one of the high points of my visit. Alex was too amazing and gave me so much knowledge and I have so much to share with my friends about panama. The canal was amazing, going through the forest was very fun for animal spotting. Fort Lorenzo was amazing to see and took my breath away. Definitely would recommend!
Had a fantastic day, long bus ride but the talk from the guides made it enjoyable - Mario made it funny and not boring to listen! The fort was beautiful and Juliette is the best sloth spotter of them all!! All three guides were great, good enthusiasm and good information. Hurrah.
Mario was great, knew his stuff, great at sporting wildlife & providing updates on schedule & breaks when we needed them. Tour is a nice alternative to all the early morning starts. Roads in rainforest a bit beat up, so plan for that if you're the type that gets car sick.
