Overnight in a beautiful, traditional house. When it comes to understanding traditions in Maramures, the most interesting experience is to enter the homes of the locals. Their home is the basis around which family, customs and traditions revolve. Starting in the morning you will meet with your guide and head to Alba Iulia – the fortress city, a town in the heart of Transylvania that takes you back in time centuries ago because of the Roman influences. Apulum due to its strategic importance was the largest roman castrum, due to its strategic importance. Over time this city was also influenced by the Germans and the Hungarians, which transforms the town into a place with a very high cultural diversity. Different architectural styles will delight you: Baroque and Romanesque churches, roman citadels and even a Babylonian building. You will have the opportunity to travel back in time by visiting an 18th century fortress, Alba Carolina. After the tour, lunch will be enjoyed in a medieval atmosphere. Romania’s largest fortress is Alba Carolina, an impressive six pointed star-shaped fortification surrounded by 12 km of walls. The fortification has a symbolic meaning being located in the center of the country, surrounded by the Carpathian Mountains and the place where kings were crowned in Romania. None of the 6 entrances will disappoint. All of them have impressive Baroque decorative elements, specific to European military architecture. The fortification was first a Roman fort, then a fortress during the Middle Ages and later a Vauban type citadel provided with bastions. Next on the journey is the Transylvanian salt mine in Turda.  In this area, the salt deposits were formed 13 million years ago, and the result of two thousand years of work will amaze you. The hundred meter galleries open into a huge room carved in salt with a 90 meter height, and in the middle of it you can enjoy a boat ride on the salt lake. If you are in search of spectacular images to capture, this is the place to be. A glass elevator provides an astonishing overview of the mine. All year long the temperature is constant, between 10 to 12 degrees Celsius, and the salty air has proven therapeutic properties, especially for people with respiratory problems.

Discover hidden secrets about people who lived, partied, and fought in the city. See amazing architecture, and reach a fantastic spot for a panoramic view of the city. After you buy the quest, you will receive an access code that you can use in the app. It will take you from 1.5 to 2 hours to complete, but there's no time limit, you can finish it at your own pace. The total length is about 3.5 km. You won't need a guide, just download the app, go to the starting point and begin the adventure. If you are a large group, one person can purchase access for the entire group by selecting the number of people in the group. All group members will be able to play the city game on their smartphone. Alternatively, each person can purchase their own ticket. You can play as a group and solve the clues together as you walk, or you can split into smaller groups/teams and compete against the others. Your day will conclude with an overnight stay in a 3-star guesthouse in the countryside. On the second day you will embark on a breathtaking tour on a steam train. Discover the Vlădeasa Mountains on this adventurous day hike. Get up close and personal with the Transylvanian (Apuseni) Mountains, which belong in the Southwestern Carpathians while you immerse yourself in their natural beauty.  Start your tour with a morning pickup from your accommodation in Cluj-Napoca. Be driven to Rogojel village and experience some authentic wooden houses and Romanian traditions. Make a short stop at the infamous Sequoia tree before beginning the hike.   Depart from the village along the hiking trail and continue for 2 hours to a Vlădeasa chalet. To begin this two-day tour, you will be picked up from your hotel in Cluj-Napoca by your guide and start the journey to Bukovina. On your way to Bukovina, you will make a quick stop in Bistrita, the northernmost fortified Transylvanian town. In a short walking tour through the town, you will enjoy the medieval legends and explore its narrow streets. Bukovina is especially famous for its painted monasteries, and over these two days, you will visit the most representative of all seven. During the second part of the day, you will have the chance to visit the most famous painted monastery in the world, Voronet Monastery. The frescoes of the monastery are dominated by intense shades of blue, and the southern wall depicts the best-preserved ‘Last Judgement’ fresco in Romania. The monastery was built in 1488 by Prince Stephen the Great in order to commemorate one of his victories against the Ottoman Empire. Enjoy a traditional dinner with a folkloric dance show at a nearby restaurant then stay overnight in Gura Humorului. You will start the day with a short drive to Humor Monastery, a small cross-shaped church built in 1530, dedicated to the Dormition of Virgin. Red hues dominate the exterior frescoes showing scenes from the lives of saints, as well as significant moments from the locals’ lives, such as the wars with the Turks. Moldovita Monastery is the next stop on your itinerary. The highlight of the day is Transrarau Highway. With a total length of 28 kilometers (17 miles), it is known as the Treasury Road. You will be amazed by its curves and the scenery. It goes up to 1400 meters in altitude, and from there you will have a hike through the Rarau Mountains. You will have the chance to see the rock formations that emerged from the ground millions of years ago in order to give birth to these mountains. After you have filled your lungs with fresh air it is time for lunch at a fish farm.
