From Reykjavik: Landmannalaugar & Háifoss Waterfall Tour

See a less-visited part of Iceland with a day tour from Reykjavik to Landmannalaugar in the highlands. See a stunning double-pronged waterfall, hike through the Fjallabak Nature Reserve, and soak in a geothermal hot spring. This small-group tour from Reykjavík offers an intimate and memorable experience. Landmannalaugar is known as the pearl of the highlands for good reason. The variety of landscapes you will see is remarkable, with new vostas emerging with every turn. Here you have about 4 hours to enjoy the best of what the area has to offer. We take the 1.5-2 hour easy Lauga-loop hiking trail along which we pass the renowned colourful ryholite hills, striking obsidian rock formations, ascend toward the steaming geothermal pools and negotiate the trail through the foothills of Bláknúkur mountain. After the hike you have the opportunity to bathe in the geothermal hot-spring pool, as reward for your exertions on the trails. Enjoy great views as you linger in the healing waters. We enjoy other great sights on our way to and from Landmannalaugarþ. We see the waterfalls at Hjálparafoss, Glanni and Háifoss. Háifoss waterfall is Iceland's fourth largest. We also pay a visit to Hnausapollur, an ancient crater lake formed by volcanic eruptions. Marvel at the turquoise blue hue of the water, contrasting with the desolate desert sands of the surrounding landscape. We return to Reykjavík tired but content, with memories of untouched nature to enjoy for years to come.

From Reykjavik: Highlands Jeep Tour & Landmannalaugar Hike

The tour will be guided by a professional geologist, which gives you the opportunity to explore the breathtaking landscape from a different and unique perspective. We will drive in a modified Super Jeep which makes the whole tour a special adventure. This tour will give you enough time to enjoy the beauty of Iceland's highlands without being tied to a tight times schedule. Hjalparfoss Our first stop is marking the beginning of the highlands of Iceland. In the shadow of the impressive volcano Hekla lies the beautiful Waterfall Hjálparfoss. The rivers Fossá and Þjórsá fall at a 45° angle to each other into the same lake and form a magical place, which is surrounded by impressive basalt columns. Just downstream from Hjálparfoss you will get a view of Iceland's second-largest hydroelectric power station, Búrfell. Haifoss Just a few kilometers upstream of Hjálparofss we will find another impressive waterfall of the highlands. The Fossá river falls over 120m down into a canyon and forms one of Iceland's highest Waterfalls. The breathtaking view down the riverbed will show us also a second waterfall Granni, right next to Háifoss. In the colorful layers of the canyon, we can see how huge eruptions in the past formed the landscape of the highlands. Ljotipollur Lake The most beautiful “ugly puddle” in Iceland. This explosive crater formed during an eruption a few hundred years ago and shows impressively the forces of nature. The different colors of this place make it the perfect photo location. The red lava rock, the green moss, and the blue water of the lake form an impressive contrast. Landmannalaugar Landmannalaugur is one of the most famous hiking areas in Iceland's highlands. Here we will go on a small 2 – 3 hours hike and explore the breathtaking landscape. Geothermal hot springs and different mineral deposits in the lava rocks form colorful mountains, which form a nearly unreal scenery. You will feel like hiking on a different planet. During the hike, we can discover many geological features of this magical place. And don't forget your swimsuit, after the hike we can relax in one of the Hotsprings and enjoy the evening before we drive back to Reykjavik. The Tour highly depends on weather and road conditions and is only offered between the 15th of June and the 15th of September (This can change, depending on road closures)
