Climb aboard the Christchurch Gondola cable car and enjoy spectacular 360-degree views across the Canterbury Plains and Southern Alps as you glide across the slopes of Mount Cavendish in the Port Hills. See as far as the city and harbor as you ride up to the summit 445 meters above sea level. Make use of the facilities at the top, such as the Discovery ride, a dramatic reconstruction of the history of the region. Revive your spirits at the Red Rock Café before or after going for a walk or bike ride along the many nature trails. Take a unique sightseeing tour of the inner city aboard an antique tram as the driver provides a live and entertaining commentary. A full circuit takes 50 minutes and includes 18 stops, where you can hop on and off as often as you wish. Visit Riverside Market, Christchurch Botanic Gardens, Cathedral Junction, Canterbury Museum, and much more.

Please collect tickets from the Booking Office in Cathedral Junction. After that, you can board the Tram at any stop or you can also collect tickets from the Christchurch Gondola at 10 Bridle Path Road.

  • The Gondola is located 15 minutes from the city center or a 10-minute drive from Port Lyttelton
  • Trams run every 15 minutes and there are up to 4 operational trams
  • You can arrive at either attraction anytime between the opening hours
  • The tram does not transport you to the Gondola. Take public bus #28 from the city bus interchange to and from the city center

My only complaint is that it would have been good to know that the gondola was located close to Littleton rather than central Christchurch. We took a cruise line shuttle (at some expense) into Christchurch to collect our tour tickets only to find we had to take a bus back to Littleton to experience the gondola. If we had known, we would not have spent money on the ship's shuttle to Christchurch but rather take a free shuttle to Littleton and then public transport to Christchurch after the gondola ride to enjoy the trams in Christchurch. I had another look at your website and couldn't find any reference to the fact that the gondola was located at Littleton.

the Tram ride was informative and we enjoyed it. Unfortunately I overbooked us for the time allotted and we did not get to do the gondola. the morning weather was wonderful and the photos I saw from others who did the gondola in the morning showed a spectacular view and we are very sorry we missed it.

Tram was a brilliant way to get to know the town. Fantastic drivers who passed on great information. Easy to hop on and off, with a different tram coming along every few minutes. Gondola was a simple bus ride from the main bus hub. Fantastic views and coffee. Really two must do’s when in Christchurch.
