Enjoy a gentle 4WD introduction to the real New Zealand on a day-trip from Christchurch. Whether you are a serious agriculturalist, or just coming along to pat some animals and enjoy the marvelous scenery, there is something for everyone and every age. After pickup from central Christchurch, journey in comfort through the dramatic scenery of Canterbury farmlands against the backdrop of the Southern Alps.

On your way to different farms (up to three), take in the wonder of the diverse landscape containing tussock, braided rivers, plateaus, hills, and mountain lakes.

An enormous variety of farm types in the region include horse studs, deer, cereal crops, poultry, orchards, vineyards, vegetables, forestry, pigs, and flower growing. Visit working farm properties for insight into the local way of life. Tour destinations vary according to the season and all involve a variety of interesting farm types and topographies.

At each location, there will be ample time to look around and the opportunity to interact with animals including feeding, patting and grooming.

Your entertaining and knowledgeable guide is a fully qualified agriculturalist who can relate all the agricultural facts, figures, and history of this unique countryside.

    What to bring

    • Comfortable clothes

    Know before you go

    • You will be in contact with domesticated animals (e.g. sheep) including feeding, patting and grooming. The availability and or accessibility of baby animals is not guaranteed
    • Hotel pickup and drop off can be arranged directly with the local operator from centrally located hotels with sufficient notice
    • New Zealand weather is unpredictable at any time of the year. Whilst you'll be warm inside the bus, dress or prepare for all seasons as much of Canterbury is surprisingly remote. Wear walking shoes or boots with good grip soles that can cope with a bit of mud in wet conditions
