Full description
After being picked up from your accommodation, your first stop will be at Christ the King, a giant statue inspired by Brazil's Christ the Redeemer. This statue was erected to express the gratitude of the Portuguese being spared the full effects of World War II. Afterwards, you will venture to the Belém district, where you will walk on the intricately patterned cobblestones en-route to the church of Jerónimos Monastery, a world heritage site by UNESCO. You will then cross the gardens of Belém to visit the incredible Monument to the Discoveries, which portrays Portuguese overseas exploration.
Afterwards, you will be driven down the side of the Tagus River, until the Square of Commerce. This is one of the most emblematic places of Lisbon, and is home to the famous Arch of Triumph which leads to Rua Augusta, the main pedestrian street of the capital. At this stage of your tour, it will be time to stop for lunch in Alfama. This is the most historic and famous neighborhood in Lisbon, consisting of a narrowed maze of streets with many "fado" restaurants and picturesque houses. It is here that you will be able to taste an authentic, typical Portuguese meal.
Following lunch, you will drive among the incredible and narrow roads of the quarters of Mouraria and Graça, passing by the National Pantheon and the church of Santa Engrácia. After experience the unique and stunning views from above, you will drive down the hill until the old Sé Cathedral of Lisbon, the oldest church in the city and a national monument since 1910. It will then be time to enjoy a walk in Rossio Square, which is located in the Pombaline Downtown of Lisbon and has been one of its main squares since the Middle Ages. It has been the setting of popular revolts and celebrations, bullfights and executions, and is now a preferred meeting place for Lisbon natives and tourists alike.
