From Sapporo: Day Trip to Lake Shikotsu, Toya and Mount Usu

Start off your day by driving towards Otaru. Have a quick stop for coffee or tea in a locally run cafe and enjoy the atmosphere. Get the chance to take some pictures at the iconic canal before it gets busy. Drive along the scenic route from Otaru to Jozankei. Take in the most breathtaking scenery and stop for pictures along the route as you drive the route via Asari Dam and Lake Sapporo. Arrive in Jozankei and enjoy a local lunch. Take some time outside the bus and walk around enjoying the fall leaves in the centre of the town. Explore the foot onsen at Gensen Park and take a short walk from Futami Park and Suspension Bridge for a classic view over Jozankei. Head back towards Sapporo via Takino Suzuran Park and admire the panoramic views of the fall leaves over the parking area.
Begin the day with a pickup from Sapporo and meet your private tour guide. The guide will introduce themself and the day’s itinerary to your group. From there, your full-day trip begins. Head for Lake Shikotsu, just over 1 hour from Sapporo City. Take a walk through the small picturesque town by the lakeside and continue to the red rail bridge. From there you’ll be able to enjoy wonderful views across the lake and to the mountain range beyond. Follow the tour to Mount Usu and Mount Showashinzan. Take the ropeway to ascend Mount Usu, an active volcano that last erupted in the year 2000. Take in the panoramic views of Lake Toya and Mount Showashinzan, and also get close up views of the eruption crater.
