Full description
Enjoy one of the most visited archaeological sites in Mexico with a variety of architectural styles. Discover how this large pre-Columbian city played an important role in the Mayan civilization from around 600 to 1200 AD, and remained a center of worship and pilgrimage until the arrival of the Spaniards. Even today, it is still considered sacred by the Mayan people of the Yucatan peninsula. Like many of the cities of ancient Mexico, the site was abandoned, and its ruins were hidden in the jungle. Experience its rich history and stunning ruins.

Chichen Itza is an incredible historical site, and it was worth it to come all the way out from Tulum to experience it, but there are some challenges with the site. There aren't many informational signs, so most learning is done by having a guide or on your own beforehand or afterwards. There are also hundreds of vendors selling hand made trinkets all around the grounds. They're pretty aggressive and take something away from contemplating the history of the ruins. They aren't right at the buildings but they line the paths between and all around any point of interest, so they're unavoidable. It was also hard to find where to redeem the voucher and get the ticket, as it is right past where they scan tickets.
