Please note: The number of boats allowed to depart from Lao ports is regulated solely by the Lao government and is beyond our control.
During the high season (November to February), some days may be very busy, and the boats can become crowded, which may affect comfort.We kindly ask for your understanding and encourage you to plan and prepare accordingly before booking this trip.
You must stay on the boat for at least 6 hours. If you have health conditions such as knee pain, heel pain, or osteoarthritis, please consider this before booking.

Itinerary
Day 1
2.00-2.30 pm: Pickup by VIP van (10 seats).
04.00 pm: Cross Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge No. 4 to Bokeo Province, Laos.
05.00 pm: Arrive at the Laos border control to complete the visa process.
06.00 pm: overnight in Huay Xai, Laos.We provided 1 room for 2 people. if you are booking 1 person, you will have your own room.

Day 2
8:00 am: Breakfast.
09.00-09.30 am: Pick up from hotel; begin boat trip to Pakbeng. Please bring a jacket with you just in case the weather is cold.
05.00 pm.Overnight: Stay in Pakbeng (accommodation not included).
You need to take all your luggage from the back and bring it back tomorrow.

Day 3
9:00 am: Continue boat trip to Luang Prabang.If the boat is too crowded, we recommend arriving early to reserve a seat.
5:00 pm: Arrive at Slow Boat Terminal.

  • On the slow boat, there are typically between 100 and 200 passengers on board.
  • This boat is shared with local travelers.
  • The boat does not make stops at other locations except for Pak Beng.
  • Additionally, meals and drinks are not provided, so you will need to bring your own or purchase them on board.
  • Laos Visa fee: 1,800 THB or $40 USD (cash only) If you use USD, the bills must be in perfect condition — not torn, dirty, or old. Only new bills are accepted.

Unfortunately the seat was right at the back with a very loud engine and no direct view of the river - second class!

Our guide (a young woman) was completely overwhelmed, apparently one room too few had been booked and we had to go to another hotel. Not a problem in itself, but she forgot to pick us up the next morning. We then went to the departure pier on our own. It should definitely be mentioned that all banks of the Mekong are very steep. This is more than a challenge for older, sick and overweight people. You have to climb very steep stairs at least twice, and lugging a lot of luggage is not ideal. I found the trip itself very pleasant, there was a lot to see.

Never again – the accommodations were miserable, in the A+ range. The slow boat departed almost two hours late, while all passengers had to wait. The luggage loading onto the boat was chaotic and quite poorly organized.
