Overview
On this cross-country bike tour from Chiang Mai, cycle down remote countryside paths and immerse yourself in the lush forests of the Mae Wang conservation area. Pass by stunning waterfalls and meet a local hill tribe during your stop for lunch.
What to Expect
Escape Chiang Mai and immerse yourself in remote forests and beautiful scenic views as you ride about 22 miles (35 km) on some great cross country trails.

This cross-country bike ride goes through the Mae Wang conservation forest in the midst of a mountain complex that is the watershed for dozens of waterfalls. You will have the trail to yourself as you cycle on dirt roads and single track through a shady forest where you will hear birds and maybe even catch sight of monkeys.

The trail will take you up to an elevation of 3280 feet (1000 m) above sea level and to cooler temperatures with a refreshing breeze. Then ride 12.5 miles (20 km) up and down before reaching the home of a hill tribe for lunch.

Many of the ethnic tribes in the area fled from China or Burma more then 200 years ago, escaping various wars. They still practice their traditional ways and you will be invited into their home to enjoy a healthy lunch. After this break and getting to know your hosts, it's time for more adventure.

Hopping right back on your bikes, pass by local villages as you ride to a beautiful 65-foot high waterfall. This is the source of Mae Wang river with a steady flow all year round. Go on foot across a bamboo bridge and feel free to jump in the water.

Once refreshed, head back down through a teak wood forest on your way back to Chiang Mai.
