Full description

Meet elephants on this guided day trip from Chiang Mia to the Lanna Kingdom Elephant Sanctuary, located in the middle of a lush national park. Here the elephants are able to roam freely in a large green space. Keep your clothes clean by wearing local clothes and boots. Feed and interact with rescued elephants before sitting down to freshly cooked lunch.

Depart Chiang Mai aboard an air conditioned van and journey into the mountains of northern Thailand to visit the ethical Lanna Kingdom Elephant Sanctuary (approximately 1-hour drive from the city center).

Upon arrival, learn about the elephant conservation program and benefit from an introductory talk, and the chance to interact with the rescued animals. Get the chance to give them a hug and discover how to prepare a healthy meal to feed them.

Go for a walk around the sanctuary with the elephants and stop to give them a mud bath to keep their body temperature down and protect them from parasites. Feed them before enjoying a homemade lunch at a restaurant inside the sanctuary.

We booked the full day trip and found it was defiantly worth it. Started the day by getting picked up at around 9:15 by a really helpful guide. It was around an hours drive from Chiang Mai old town. We arrived at the elephant sanctuary and began by getting to meet the four elephants and feeding. We were given information about them then took them for walk nearby. Water and food was provided throughout. We then bathed them in a mud bath and prepared some food for them in the afternoon. Really helpful guide and lovely sanctuary.

This is a unique experience that differs from any other tour or day trip because it gives you the chance to have direct contact with wildlife. I was apprehensive at first, not knowing how safe the activity is but as I got there, I quickly realized how fun and educational caring for elephants really is.

Lanna Sanctuary is a great day trip for families or a group of friends. They rescue and foster a great home for the elephants to escape from their previous living conditions and have a large area to roam free. Our guide Alex was phenomenal. He had a lot of great knowledge about the elephants as well as stories about his experience growing up near Chang Mai. We were able to feed, swim, and interact with the elephants for a full day in addition to learning about how they live in the wild. We had a delicious meal prepared by their chef and they provided plenty of water and extra clothes to get dirty in. If you have Alex for the day make sure you prepare some riddles for him!
