Half Day Tour to Becan Mayan Ruins from Bacalar or Chetumal

This is a tour with a local professional tour guides to visit a Mayan site in order to explore and learn about monuments built in the Architectural style Río Bec, into Becan, considered the Best exmple in the región. Basically the tour is divided into pick-up, visit to the archaeological park and drop-off. but let me create a picture of what Becan Is like. Becan is a medium sized classical Mayan city-state, and as normal in those settlements it concentrated power, richness a population into a small area. The buildings are of monumental size and have different uses, such as a ball court, residences, temple, administrative buildings and an astronomical observatory. So this is an excellent opportunity to visit a place without crowds, with buildings that can stand out in any of your photos and also with green areas that make the walk quite enjoyable and relaxing. Even if you decide to climb the structures, you will have a fascinating view and a good challenge to reach the top. Nothing like a good archaeological walk to complement your vacation in the Yucatan Peninsula.

Mayan Temples Kohunlich & Blue Cenote

We discovered the place where the Maya built an important ceremonial center, plaza and markets, ball game and reservoirs where they stored rainwater. We will tour the palace and residential areas, as well as the rooms of Mayan people who had a privileged social status. We will climb some of the temples that were once used for religious purposes such as Mayan sacrifices. Thank you to Roberto, our guide and driver. From picking us up at our hotel on time, to arriving there, staying in Karakulm, and dropping us off at our hotel, the management was flawless. As a traveler with limited time, it was great to be able to participate in such a tour and I, as one person, was included in the other participating groups and had a great time with everyone. Calakulum is a Mayan site that you should visit now. In a few years, I think it will be more touristy than it is now and the added value of being deep in the jungle will drop. Lastly, I was worried before we went that 4 hours one way would be hard, but coffee breaks, restroom breaks, etc. were well secured, and it was possible to deal with irregularities (not that there were any). Roberto's driving was very good; he made sure we were safe enough when passing, and there was never a time when we felt unsafe. I was jet-lagged, so I slept on the way there and back (sorry to Roberto who was driving).

A great day in the jungle and the ruins of Calakmul! Argeo is a very good driver, we felt welcome and safe. Armando is a great guide, very passionate about Mayan history and culture as well as the flora and fauna of the region. He really has an eye for spotting all the animals that pass by and he is very friendly! Incredible ruins, great atmosphere, monkeys, tapirs, coatis, toucans... and so much more. A wonderful experience!

Roberto, our guide, made the visit to the archeological site of Calakmul and to the surrounding selva highly interesting. His extensive knowledge of Maya history and culture was remarkable! He also knew the right places to see various animals (we saw wild turkeys, monkeys and tapirs as well as numerous birds) and plants. He also made us feel very safe and comfortable during the long drive from Bacalar to Calkamul and back.

A great day spent with Gerardo. Awesome guide! We saw lots of animals in the jungle. Calakmul is beautiful, with few tourists, so we felt like we had the ancient city all to ourselves. It was a busy day with a lot of traveling, but it was definitely worth it :)
