Touraine: Château d'Amboise and Château du Clos Lucé Tour

Overlooking the Loire, the Château d'Amboise in the heart of Touraine was home to kings Louis XI, Charles VIII (who died there), Louis XII, and François 1er. Built in the 15th and 16th centuries, it became part of the French crown in 1431. The chapel of St. Hubert houses the tomb of Leonardo da Vinci, who lived at Le Clos Lucé, 2 steps from the château. At the invitation of François 1er, Leonardo da Vinci spent the last 3 years of his life at the Château du Clos Lucé, a Renaissance marvel. Le Clos Lucé allows visitors to experience the genius of da Vinci through furnishings, decorations, inventions, and models. The park has been transformed into a play area, inviting visitors to handle da Vinci's inventions.

The trip was really interesting and we reached objectives that could not be done otherways. Our grup guide (Leyla) was very knowledgeable, pacient and empathetic. I appreciated her a lot and I would like to thank her. The bus driver Jamel was also very helpful. The hotels for the two nights were good and the dinner provided was also nice. The program includes many stairs and stepa, those with mobility impairments should be aware. But the tempo was correct and it allowed us to see all these beautiful objectives. Mont St Michel is excepțional. Omaha Beach very impressive, St Malo also interesting and picturesque. A good program, a little expensive but totally worth the money.

Clos Luce Castle is a beautiful and thoughtful representation of Leonardo da Vinci's last three years of life. The rooms are decorated and presented as if da Vinci were still living there. It was amazing to see his inventions, in drawings, in computer rendered videos, and in scaled down real objects. This is a castle well worth the visit.

We toured 3 castles and had a wonderful experience. I don’t know how we could have done more in one day. Our guide Olga was knowledgeable and friendly, able to paint a backdrop for who lived in these magnificent Castles. This was a trip to the past that was truly an enhancing experience.

Wonderful little tour and included entrance to exhibit. I wish that was more clear in the post. My wonderful surprise was that with the park/museum grounds there is a renaissance style restaurant which was wonderful after the tour!

It was just great there, historically very interesting...
