We loved the new, comfortable bus with A/C. And the driver also sold cold water for just one Euro (important as it was in the 90s). It is much better to take this tour than trying to coordinate train and taxi to try and do these chateaux in one day. We had plenty of time (if you don't want to really get out in the vast gardens--we didn't because of the heat). You can pay extra to rent a golf cart at Vaux-le-Vicomte for 45 minutes, but we chose to have a relaxing meal and time in the gift shop instead. We paid extra to climb to the top of that chateau and felt that and the 80 steps were worth it for the view. Unfortunately, there was a lot of renovation/restoration going on outside of Fontainebleau so it was difficult to access the fountain areas and parts of the gardens. A caveat about Paris City Tours office: Extremely disorganized, with long lines to get a voucher to present to the driver. Even though we were there 15 minutes early we almost didn't make it on the bus.
It was wonderful to see these places and they were so tranquil. I went on Saturday, and there were no queues, no rush or crush of people anywhere (except to get get on the bus in the morning). My photos of the day were, as a result, amazing. The audio guide for Vaux was very good, timed to my pace so I could take as little or long in any room I wanted, with clean comfortable headphones. Our bus was hot, but was swapped out for us while we were in Fontainebleau so the remainder of the trip was deliciously cool with wifi onboard. All the staff - from the ticketing, to the guide and driver were easy going and helpful. It was the easiest most professional item on my itinerary during my entire stay in Paris: delivered on time and exactly as described. Thankyou so much.
Enjoyed the experience very much. The guide could have discussed more of what we were going to see so we had more context. It was difficult for example to make sense if the gardens of Fontainebleau. Please don’t allow the seats to tilt back in the bus. One couple and they were the only couple who did this, tilted their seats all the way back on a young mother and her child.
Be aware of audioguide. Descriptions are very lengthy. Pace your tour of Fontainebleau castle (very beautiful and huge) according to the tour departure time so you will make it. We had very good and knowledgeable guide.
Very interesting and well organised tour. The guide JB is a well experienced and very pleasant professional who is truly gifted to be in this industry. A splendid day all in all.
