Hop aboard a comfortable and air-conditioned bus at the Charleston Visitor Center downtown and relax on the drive to Boone Hall Plantation in Mount Pleasant. Begin your tour on the front porch of the plantation with a guide in historical clothing.

Be introduced to the the history of Boone Hall Plantation and its evolution through several owners since 1681. Watch the "Slave Cabin and History Presentation" for a look at the living quarters, historic relics, and lifestyle of the enslaved people who lived here at Boone Hall.

Gain insights into the culture and life of enslaved people with moving stories and songs performed at the Gullah Theater. Stroll around manicured grounds and soak up the beauty of the gardens where one of the main features are antique roses that are over 100 years old.

Be mesmerized by fluttering wings in the Butterfly Pavilion (in season). Board a tram to see the plantation from a different perspective. Head back to Charleston with a deeper understanding of South Carolina's complicated past.

  • The bus is not handicap accessible, as it is necessary for you to be able to climb stairs to access the vehicles
  • There are no restrooms on the bus, but there are some are located at the Visitors Center
  • While photography is not allowed inside the house at Boone Hall Plantation, you are welcome to take photos during the other portions of the tour
  • Can I carry luggage or other large items on the bus?
  • No. We do not have space on the bus for large items such as luggage, wheelchairs, or strollers.

Those interested in this tour should be aware that the actual plantation tour portion is no different than what any visitor to Boone Hall receives for an entry fee of $30. What you are really paying for here is the round-trip transportation from downtown Charleston to the plantation. We did not know this - we had our own car and could have driven ourselves to Boone Hall so we spent about $100 more than was necessary.
