Full description
This tour begins at the Big Red Barn in downtown Charleston, where you'll meet a knowledgeable driver-guide and settle into a carriage drawn by either horses or mules. Follow a route that takes in some of the historic downtown district’s most elegant mansions and gardens, learning about the architecture of each place as you drive along. Catch the scent of jasmine flowers from deep, shady porches, and pass by rows of bristling palmetto trees. Get an overview of Charleston’s dramatic history, from long-ago pirate raids to plantations, Revolutionary battles, the Civil War, and Reconstruction. The city was founded in 1670, and Charleston's historic buildings have been meticulously preserved and restored. Guides combine humor with history for a lighthearted experience of Charleston’s atmospheric center, and you'll cover between 25 and 30 blocks of the downtown district. This tour concludes with drop-off at the Big Red Barn.

Josh & Drudge were such a great team! Josh was talkative, informative, funny, and relaxing to have as our tour guide, which is exactly what we needed to start our honeymoon trip off in Charleston for the first time! We learned a bunch of information and saw beautiful homes around the downtown area. The breezes kept us cool and comfortable. Josh is an equestrian so he knew his stuff about horses and mules. ❤️

Maggie and Drudge were wonderful guides through some of the more important historical sites of Charleston. Not being a native, Maggie pointed out the things she thought other "new to Charleston" folk like me would find entertaining. Drudge did her job and likely could have made the route without Maggie's help (though Maggie helped with the traffic).

I live in Myrtle and my son attends CofC honors college. So I'm very familiar with Charleston. My folks on the other hand are not. I was going to show them around myself but the weather was not cooperating. At the last minute I booked a horse and buggy tour. We were given the sweetest, funniest tour guide. He was very knowledgeable and a bunch of fun. I highly recommend the tour. Hate to say.. I cant remember the tour guides name but if it helps.. the horses names I do remember. LOL Horses names: Rhyme and Reason.:) P.S. The tour is fine in all weather. There's a canopy over carriage and they have plenty of blankets for everyone. Enjoy!
