The town was founded in the 13th century and has retained its former medieval character. Český Krumlov Castle is the second largest in the country after Prague Castle. It was also the seat of the powerful Rozmberk and Schwarzenberg families and now houses rich historical collections. In the castle gardens, you cannot miss the unique 18th century castle theatre. You will also have time to take a break in one of the many stylish and cosy pubs. During the winter season, lunch instead of the castle entrance fee will be included.

While admiring many of the original Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque houses at Latran, let's continue through the Red Gate directly to the castle or take a detour and visit the former Monastery of Minor monks. At the Český Krumlov castle, one gets astonished at the magic beauty of the castle tower and the curiosity of live bears kept at the moat. The 5 courtyards of the castle are the highlights of this tour. Admire breathtaking wall frescos dating back to 1600's. After 1302, it became the mail seat of Rozmberks. The castle was expanded several times and in the 16th century was rebuilt into renaissance chateau. Later, the owners the Eggenberg and Schwarzenberk families made some baroque modifications. Also the chateau´s chapel was rebuilt, masquerade hall decorated and a new manor theater built. The castle´s viewing tower is nice highlight of the city.
