Full description
Begin your day in the morning with a pickup from your accommodation and head to one of the most popular mountains to hike in San Pedro. Cerro Toco is only one hour away and is known for its easy access and minor technical difficulty compared to other close-by volcanos. It is perfect for people who want to try to ascend their first summit.

When arriving at the base of the volcano, your guide will give you all the necessary instructions for a safe and pleasant hike. During the whole way to the top, you will always be accompanied by the local professionals who will help you with anything while respecting your pace.

Start at a level of 5,200 meters above sea level and climb for almost 2 km of ascent with 400 meters of unevenness until reaching the top of the summit. Even though this may seem like a short distance, remember the altitude plays a crucial role in your breathing.

As soon as you have reached the top of the 5,600 meters summit (18,000 ft), you will have an amazing sense of accomplishment as you look over the incredible views. See behind the Andes Mountain Range and marvel at the various volcanos and the lagoons over the border and into Bolivian territory.

After enjoying the views for a bit and taking amazing pictures, the descent takes about 1 hour. Reach again the base of the volcano and head back to San Pedro de Atacama.
