Ruling during the Ottoman invasion of Bosnia, Catherine was separated from her children and sent into exile. During the summer, it is possible to head to the top of the mountains to view the Bobovac fortress. Due to its advantageous position and superior equipment, Bobovac was considered the most important and best fortified city of medieval Bosnia. It served as the headquarters for many Bosnian rulers, especially during the reign of King Stephen Thomas and Queen Catherine until the Turks conquered it in 1463, ending Bosnia's independence. On your way back to Sarajevo, visit the oldest house in central Bosnia dating back to the 18th century. Designated a protected national monument, the house is an impressive example of traditional Bosnian architecture. Your last stop will be at a mosque built by Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent that is known to be the oldest mosque in Bosnia.
