Tour from Gaia to Ribeira and boat trip on the Douro River
The Douro River is witness to the birth and evolution of Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia. With this tour you will learn, from the hand of an official tour guide in Spanish, the history and curiosities of both cities while enjoying a pleasant walk along the banks of one of the most important rivers of the Iberian Peninsula. We will start our visit on the banks of Vila Nova de Gaia, specifically in front of its municipal market, the Beira-Rio Market, a traditional space where the typical Portuguese gastronomy plays a very important role. Just in front we will find the Gaia Cable Car, a structure that, in addition to facilitating the movement to the upper area of the city, offers unique views of the entire environment and has become a tourist attraction. From this bank we will observe how the Cathedral of Oporto dominates the city and we will take advantage of these views to be surprised with some of its legends. Nearby we will find the Cálem Winery, one of the most outstanding wineries in Portugal and an ideal place to discover the historical importance of wine in this region and some of its most characteristic elements, such as the caves or the rabelos. Our walk through Gaia continues to observe in front of us the vestiges of the most medieval Porto through the Fernandine Walls. But if you prefer to see the neighboring city from the heights at another time, our tour guide will show you how to climb the Jardim do Morro, one of the most famous parks and viewpoints of Vila Nova de Gaia. As we cross the Don Luis I Bridge, we will observe the details of one of the most incredible structures that crosses the Douro and learn about its relationship with Gustave Eiffel, as well as the historical events that have passed through it. Already on the banks of Oporto, we will stop to get an incredible view of the Serra do Pilar Monastery, considered one of the most emblematic monuments with the greatest historical value of the city of Gaia. We will end our walk in the Ribeira district of Porto, also known as Miragaia, which during the Middle Ages was the port and commercial center of the city and still maintains much of its ancient essence, with narrow, steep streets and tall houses decorated with tiles. Complete this experience with a boat ride on the Douro River. Is there a better plan than ending this tour with a cruise along the Douro River? If you want this experience to be even more enriching, choose the boat option when booking. You will be able to enjoy a magnificent boat ride of approximately 50 minutes in which you will discover the main features of the six bridges that connect both banks of the Douro in this area.
