2. Las Palmas: Vegueta Old Town Walking Tour
Explore the old town district of Vegueta in Las Palmas to learn about a historical settlement founded in 1478 by Castilian troops.
Set off from Plaza de las Ranas to discover the Old Quarter’s links to Atlantic maritime navigation. Currently under submission for UNESCO World Heritage status, the areas of Vegueta and Triana include many beautiful sights, including the historic Guiniguada Theater, a former movie theater that recently underwent a restoration project.
Walk down cobblestone streets, passing close to the Cathedral of Santa Ana, one of the most important monuments of Canarian architecture. Behind the cathedral lies the Plaza del Pilar Neuvo, a former gathering place for local women to collect water from the central well.
