Luca was a great guide as he slowly and patiently led a large group of people with differing hiking skills across cooled lava flows and down scree. The changing landscape was magnificent and Luca informed us of so much. We felt safe with the guide as he had access to information about the vagaries of the magnificent Mt Etna.

Definitely recommend this tour. Glad we went for a tour and glad we went for the hiking option rather than the 4x4 bus. Only a total of c.6k walking and you learn a lot from the guide, group isn't too large. Cafe at the start is good for coffee, pastries, sandwiches for the journey, after walk snacks. Free parking by their offices.

A difficult climb, but definitely worth it. Warm clothing is recommended because of the cold temperature and strong winds. We didn't use a real path on this tour (wasn't available at the desired height), which is why you should have a certain amount of experience with paths that are difficult to negotiate due to scree. Arriving at the top of the southern slope of Mount Etna, there is a very good view of the surrounding craters and of Catania. Here we walked along the narrow crater rims. Depending on the volcano location, the maximum walkable height is adjusted. The descent was over quickly.
