  • See the Italian villages where scenes from The Godfather were shot
  • Stroll along the ancient streets of the resort town of Taormina and visit the ruins of its Greek amphitheatre
  • Walk between Taormina's two city gates, Porta Messina and Porta Catania
Take a full-day shore excursion from Catania to discover where scenes from The Godfather were filmed in Savoca and Capo Sant'Alessio. Later, stop off in Taormina, the resort town of Sicily, for a walking tour of its ancient architecture and warm beaches.
What to Expect
Explore Sicily on a full-day shore excursion from Catania. Spend time in the resort town of Taormina, touring the commune by foot. Meanwhile, movie buffs will be delighted when they are taken to where scenes from The Godfather II and The Godfather III were filmed.

Upon arrival, you will be picked up and driven on a road bordered with villas, flowering gardens, and picturesque villages, that leads to the historical artist town of Savoca. Visit Bar Vitelli, which houses a collection of local artisan tools and photographs taken when Francis Ford Coppola shot scenes of The Godfather II. Stroll along the main street past Santa Lucia and San Michele churches for a short view over the valley.

A short drive away, you'll find a charming little village overlooking the Arab-Norman castle of Capo Sant'Alessio. In 1990, Al Pacino and Sofia Coppola shot scenes here for The Godfather III. From the main square, a lane meets the circular steps that ascend to the Gothic-Catalan portal in front of the Church of San Agostino.

Continue to Taormina, where you will have leisure time to take yourself on a walking tour of the area. Taormina is a hill-village with a glossy sheen of glamour, known also for its Greek amphitheatre. Walk down the attractive principal thoroughfare, Corso Umberto, ideal for strolling and window-shopping. Lanes above and below the Corso are interesting to explore, and if you want to stretch your legs further there are walks up into the hills, or down to the sea. Given its compact size, Taormina has a huge range of bars, cafes, and restaurants where you can while away the hours while admiring the views. Taormina has two important gates: Porta Messina (Messina Gate) and Porta Catania (Catania Gate). Visiting these gates is just one of the many activities you can do while soaking up the local atmosphere, before you are returned to the port.
