I recommend this tour if you want an authentic experience with a local sicilian guide that has humor and tells you lots of interesting things. At the beggining the climbing may be challenging if you are not used to it, but nothing difficult in fact. The reward afterwards is mych more than that. Big thanks to Alessandro! :)

Full description

Enjoy a hike on the highest, most active volcano in Europe. Explore a fascinating landscape and take in breathtaking views on this climbing adventure.


Start the tour with an early morning pickup from the meeting point chosen. On the way, there will be a stop for a coffee and to buy something to eat.


Arrive at the starting point for your off-the-beaten-track hike. Take advantage of a helmet and all the equipment you need for your hike.


As you begin to walk, admire the fascinating landscape of the Valle del Bove, the biggest depression of Mount Etna, and its moonlike deserts. From there take in the breathtaking views of the smoking summit craters and the surrounding landscape facing the Ionian Sea.


Finally, in the afternoon, get dropped off back in Catania where your tour concludes.

Everything went smoothly, from the meeting point to the end. The guide was great - he provided hiking shoes (much needed), a backpack, a wind jacket, and hiking poles if needed. You can bring lunch or a snack for the break at the top, knowing you’ll be back at the the hiking start point around 2 p.m. where you can buy food. The hike goes up to 2,400–2,500 meters, so it can get quite cold and windy. If you’re afraid of heights, it’s totally manageable, but it still does require a good physical condition. We do not take cable car, we hike directly from 1900m. Great activity.
