Sirmione private tour: on the shores of lake Garda

5. Sirmione private tour: on the shores of lake Garda

The guided tour of Sirmione will take you on a walk in its historic center among many curiosities, important monuments and panoramic views of the beaches on the clear waters of Lake Garda. It starts from one of the most evocative and characteristic points of Sirmione, crossing the drawbridge of the imposing Scaliger Castle, the only access point to the historic center of the village. The Castle built in the 14th century by the Scala family who controlled nearby Verona, is one of the best preserved castles in Italy and is surrounded on all four sides by the waters of the lake, a true architectural jewel on the picturesque fortified Darsena and the boats of the fishermen who color it. Crossing the fortress we continue with a visit to the Church of S. Maria della Neve or Santa Maria Maggiore, the main church of the village built in the 1400s and with stunning paintings inside and a wooden statue of the Madonna Enthroned from the same period. We stroll through the streets of the village characterized by colorful houses and many souvenir shops, boutiques, bars and restaurants where you can taste the goodness of the lake, up to the most popular spa center on Lake Garda that we will visit outdoors. In fact, Sirmione is well known for its late 19th century Baths generated by a source of hot water that comes directly from the bottom of the lake and offers benefits for the whole body. The tour continues admiring a stately villa renamed Maria Callas' House where the queen of opera used to stay for her holidays in the fifties; she talked about it in several interviews saying she fell in love with this place on the lake for the peace and quiet. A few steps away we find the park dedicated to her and the characteristic Church of San Pietro in Mavino dating back to the 1300s in Romanesque style and built in one of the highest and most panoramic points of the village. From here we can admire one of the most popular beaches for tourists, the Jamaica Beach free stone beach, which is very particular because, reflecting in the blue waters, it really seems to be on a tropical beach. On the other side of the village, however, we can admire the Beach of Blondes, another very popular beach with a beautiful pier for a panoramic view of the lake and we finish the guided tour along the panoramic pedestrian street called the Walk of the Muses which takes us back to the heart of the village.

Two hours cruise in the late afternoon, a romantic and relaxing experience onboard of an historical sailboat, the iconic vessel "Siora Veronica. Depending on the winds blowing, the itinerary could be navigation southwards to Cassone along the eastern coast, between the islands of the dreamy Val di Sogno Bay and in front of the picturesque village of Cassone, or crossing the Lake to the western coast direction waterfalls, to see the most romantic spots in the surroundings, with smooth bossanova/lounge music on background. In the middle of the tour there would be an aperitif offered, with a glass of sparkling wine included, enjoying the sunset vibes of Lake Garda. Experience suggested to couples and boat lovers. A great 4 hour trip around Lake Garda which included wine tasting and the opportunity for a swim in the lake. The scenery was stunning and our guide was also informative, friendly and a great pilot. I'd definately recommend this.

A lovely half-day tour during a very warm week. Good way to enjoy a few hours on the lake, some wine tasting and less crowded places for baths and sightseeing (from the boat).

Overall activity was amazing the boat trip and guide were great but transportation from Lake Garda to Verona was a challenge but overall pleased.
