Trani and Castel del Monte: tour from Bari by private bus

Trani and Castel del Monte: tour from Bari by private bus

In 1996, UNESCO included Castel del Monte in its World Heritage list for its exceptional universal value as much for its architectural beauty as for the mystery that still surrounds it. The castle of mysteries, a perfect mix of mathematics, geometry, esotericism, Templars, the Holy Grail and Frederick II and where the number eight reigns supreme. The castle is an intricate tangle of unsolved puzzles. Incarnation of the strength and power achieved by Frederick II, Castel del Monte represents the stone crown of the stupor mundi. The Castle is located in a non-strategic position, in reality the building was probably not a fortress. Due to the strong symbolism with which it is imbued, it has been hypothesized that the building could be a sort of temple, or perhaps a sort of temple of knowledge, in which one could dedicate oneself undisturbed to the study of science. In any case it reveals itself as a grandiose architectural work, a synthesis of refined mathematical, geometric and astronomical knowledge. The octagon on which the plan of the complex and its elements is articulated is a highly symbolic geometric shape: it is the intermediate figure between the square, symbol of the earth, and the circle, which represents the infinity of the sky, and therefore it would mark the transition from one to the other. It has been noted how the building, seen from afar, appears very similar to a crown and, in particular, the one with which Frederick II himself was crowned (also octagonal). If we ideally wanted to cut the entrance portal to the building with a vertical line passing through its axis, it would be possible to see a large F, the initial of the sovereign who wanted it and who perhaps thus left his mark and signature. Trani, 43 km from Bari, the provincial capital with Andria and Barletta, Trani overlooks the Adriatic with the elegance of a light stone amphitheater. Trani boasts one of the most beautiful cathedrals in Puglia, a charming historic center and a wonderful city port, restored to perfection, where it is possible to buy fresh fish and enjoy a glass of excellent wine right on the seashore. The Cathedral of San Nicola Pellegrino is a Romanesque treasure suspended over the sea, unusually high compared to the other religious buildings in the region, with a richly decorated interior, with the two crypts of San Nicola and Santa Maria and the hypogeum of San Leucio. A few steps from the Cathedral, the Swabian Castle stands out, an imposing fort built by Frederick II, while behind the port the alleys of the Jewish quarter of Giudecca wind their way, among ancient synagogues and artisan shops. Not far away, there is the Villa Comunale, a relaxing public garden on the sea, while the Monastery of Santa Maria Colonna is about a mile from the town.

I got to meet a very nice family as well in this trip! Thank you Enzo for this Excellent adventure !

What a lovely day. Enzo knows the region very well and is happy to introduce you to hidden gems, and well known treasures if you ask. He customised our itinerary due to a late start. Because of I was travelling with my 5 year old daughter, he helped us to find places she and I would enjoy in the region. A lovely tour

An excellent day- since it was just the two of us, Enzo gave us a choice of which cities we wanted to see, so we went to Polignano a Mare, Alberbello, Locorotondo and Ostuni. Enzo was funny and shared some stories. The only bummer was it was an SUV instead of the Fiat which I wanted to take pics with lol

Alessia was puntual, courteous and helpful during our visit to Matera, Alberobello and Polignano a Mare a Mare.. She did everything she could to make us enjoy our visit.

Really enjoyed the day trip. Enzo was a great guide and gave us plenty of time at each location and information on the places visited.
