Milan: Leonardo da Vinci Life Walking Tour

1. Milan: Leonardo da Vinci Life Walking Tour

The tour focuses on three key places in the life of Milan: Santa Maria delle Grazie, the Casa degli Atellani, and the Sforza Castle (entry tickets to Last Supper, Casa degli Atellani and Sforza Castle are excluded). First destination of our guided tour is the Basilica of Santa Maria Delle Grazie, close to the Leonardo's Last Supper, that is undoubtedly the artist's greatest masterpiece in Milan, placed in the refectory of the Santa Maria delle Grazie complex. Not everyone knows that also the Basilica of this complex is a real masterpiece of art and architecture itself. This basilica, with its incredibly complex history and meanings, surely deserves the starting point of our tour. Right next to the Basilica we will be able to admire from the outside the Casa degli Atellani, one of the most important place in Milan related to Leonardo. In the courtyard of the Casa degli Atellani, Leonardo da Vinci, the Florentine master who was invited by Ludovico il Moro to work as a 'handyman', often spent his days, and it is known that here he had his personal and beloved vineyard. Another mythical place of Leonardo's life in Milan is the Castello Sforzesco. Ludovico il Moro called great artists to the court to decorate the castle, including Donato Bramante and Leonardo da Vinci. Walking outside the Castle and inside its courtyards, we will discover the strong relation between the artist and this incredible cultural site in the middle of Milan. It is no coincidence that one of the most important unfinished works of Leonardo, the beautiful Sala delle Asse, today under restoration, is inside the Sforza Castle.

Our guide was fabulous and he was very knowledgeable. He was also equally passionate about the subject which made it that much more interesting. However based on the way this experience was advertised through GetYourGuide, we were disappointed in the outcome due to no fault of our guide. We believed based on the description that the last supper painting was part of this experience. In the list of things excluded from the tour, it did not list that the painting would be excluded therefore we thought the description was somewhat misleading. Our goal was to see the painting and learn more about Michelangelo . If we understood the painting was excluded we would’ve chosen a different experience with GetYourGuide.
