Later, discover the legend of Dracula and Vlad the Impaler at the infamously spooky Bran Castle. More than 69 hectares of forest with rivers and ponds are now the home of almost 90 brown bears. Most of the bears in the Sanctuary were rescued from the most miserable and small cages, where they were used as a form of entertainment for tourist attractions. Since 2008, this wild place has been visited, and you will see bears climbing trees, playing in the water pools, or just lazing in the meadows. You will continue the day, and in about one hour of driving through the Carpathian Mountains, you will arrive at Bran Castle. Also called Dracula's Castle, it was originally built as a fortress and is surrounded by an aura of mystery and legend. It owes its fame to its imposing towers and turrets as well as to the myth created around Bram Stoker's Dracula. Along the way, the Castle had a strategic mission as the border between Transylvania and Wallachia. Narrow, winding stairways lead through some 60 timber rooms, many connected by underground passages, which house collections of furniture, weapons, and armor dating from the 14th to the 19th centuries. In the evening, you will be back in Bucharest.

After an overnight stay in the city, you will leave the next day for the beautiful Transylvania region. You will stop at an important religious landmark, Curtea de Arges Monastery (replace in the summertime with a road trip to Trasnfăgărășan). You then head to Sibiu, named the European Capital of Culture in 2007. On day three, visit Sibiel – a quaint Transylvanian village praised as one of the most authentic and well-preserved rural areas in Europe. After a short walk in the village, your tour continues with a short trip to Alba Iulia, before visiting the Turda Salt Mine. The next morning will be devoted to a city tour of Cluj-Napoca. From Cluj, you will be heading to the northwestern part of Romania, Maramureș, a region resembling a fascinating open-air museum. Amazing hike with Mihai. The guide has a lot of knowledge about nature. We were lucky and got to see a lot of animals, even bears! Mihai took care of us at all times and we felt no danger. Activity 100% recommended.
