Enjoy a private day tour and wine tasting sessions in the wine regions of Stellenbosch and Franschhoek.
What to Expect
Discover South Africa and visit the most famous wine-growing regions. Begin your private day tour with a trip to Paarl, where you'll be blown away by the beauty of its flawless blue skies and vineyards high above the valley. Paarl became famous when President Mandela was released from Drakenstein Correctional Centre (formerly known as Victor Verster Prison) on the outskirts of the town, beginning a new era for South Africa. Enjoy wine tasting and a walking tour through the wine estate, which has its own glassblowing studio and a chocolate manufacturer.
Travel further to the beautiful Franschhoek Valley, near the Drakestein Mountains. Franschhoek Village was founded in 1688 by French immigrants, who fled from religious persecution by the Huguenots in Europe.
Stop here for lunch at a local wine estate (not included in the tour price). If you haven't already enjoyed your first wine tasting of the day in Paarl, you can sample some of the delicious wines served here.
Next it's time to head to the university town of Stellenbosch, the second oldest town in South Africa, and the historical heart of the wine region. In 1679, the first Governor of the Cape Colony, Simon van der Stel, noted the fertility of the valley on the shore of the Eerste River was perfect for wine production. And the rest is history... carefully cultivated in this town!
During your tour, marvel at the Cape-Dutch architecture and the Gregorian and Victorian houses on Dorp Street, where massive oaks from the original, deep furrows, provide shade as they line the street. Enjoy another wine tasting at Delaire or Zorgvliet Winery, before heading back to your hotel in Cape Town.
