Full description
Your Lion's Head trail experience begins on a gravel track through spectacular groves of silver leaf trees. You will start off by following a path which reveals ever-changing views as it spirals around Lion's Head. Very soon the breathtaking vista of the Atlantic coastline and the magnificent apostles of Table Mountain will come into view. Soon the gravel track narrows to a path, from where you will pass the first paragliding launch pad. You will then continue along the stepped path with views over the very popular Camps Bay Beach and Clifton beaches. Following a further 30 minutes of hiking, you will come to a split keep on the upward-tending path. From here you will continue with views of Seapoint on your left, and following a further 10 minutes you will see the city of Cape Town sprawled beneath you and the front of Table Mountain rearing up high above. You will then continue steeply upwards to the first ladder, before traversing left along a shelf with a chain handrail. Next, you will continue with the path until you reach a fork, where you will have the choice to either veer left to circumnavigate two rock pitches, or to turn right and climb the rock pitches. If you are not into vertical rock steps simply continue left, from where you can carry on with the path past some huge stone pine trees to gain the crest of the southeast ridge. From here you will follow the obvious well-worn path via some scrambling and a ladder to the 669-meter summit.

Rafeeq was an excellent guide. Walking all the way up lion's head and watching the sunset was a great experience. He had a spear headtorch to facilitate the way down with a beautiful clear sky with stars overlooking the lights of cape town. Rafeeq has a beautiful way with people and will adapt to your needs he will happily show you more things even if this means a longer hike as he is keen to make the hike something you enjoy above all. He will not pressure you and has a very reassuring way of communicating which makes you feel safe at all time. I strongly advise you to do this hike.

It was very windy day, thus we couldn’t make it to the top, but despite that it was amazing. Breathtaking view in every angle and the feel I have never felt before. Our guide Patrick was very friendly and warm person, he told us about the history and nature, it was very interesting. Highly recommend this hike, but you have to take into account, that it may be windy and it also takes some effort while climbing on the cliffs.

It was amazing. Our guide Frank told us a lot about the history of Cape Town, the individual neighborhoods and how he came to Cape Town from Switzerland. The four of us hiked to Lion's Head and had a very nice but exhausting evening. The climb is not for people who are afraid of heights or are physically limited, because from the middle it is more climbing than hiking. But when you get to the top you have a wonderful 360 degree view of Cape Town and the ocean. We had a great trip and would do it again
