Drive to Langa and learn the history of the oldest township at sites like the Old Pass Office and the monument to Robert Sobukwe. Learn about life during apartheid on a walking tour of the hostels and shacks. Visit a shebeen (pub) and try some homemade beer.  See a traditional healer in action, and then drive through the Bonteheuwel township, reserved for the "colored" community during the days of apartheid. Hear about the division of people and its impact. See the Gugulethu 7 Memorial to the members of an anti-apartheid group killed by the South African Police in 1986, and the memorial to the American student Amy Biehl, murdered by PAC supporters in 1993. We had a really nice experience with Sam as a tour guide for the township tour. He could tell us a lot about the historical backgrounds of the township and current developments. The highlight of the tour was that he made it possible for us to spontaneously visit a shack from the inside. I would definitely recommend a tour with him!

Well organized and genuine township tour

Well organised and composed tour with great guides that gave a good view of life in a township. We were given a historical baclground of how the townships were formed as a result of the apartheid politics, and we git to visit a township home and see the daily lives in the township. We were lucky to go on a sunday when the tour includes a 30 minutes visit at local baptiskt church meeting which was a fantastic experience.

Must do!

The tour was amazing. We were the only two people on the afternoon tour, which made it even better. Both guides were really nice and answered every question we had. The tour is definitely a must do in Cape Town! It helps to get a better understanding of the country and it's culture. Our guide also assured us that the tour is highly appreciated by the people in the township since they can use the donations to improve the facilities for kids for example.
