An excellent day. We started with Elmina Castle and then went to Kakum Park for our canopy walk and lunch before ending with Cape Coast castle. It was really good to have the forest between the two emotionally heavy sites, allowing for reflection but also clear separation between the two. Our guide, Gian, sought getting us the best options possible when it came to private tours inside the sites, and was very knowledgeable as well as friendly. We encountered traffic and car trouble on the way back, as the highway to get there was under construction and will be for some time. Do not book this tour the day/night as your returning flight (which Gian indicated some people do). Leave yourself a buffer.
Highly highly recommend this tour! Our Tourguide Eben was super reliable, including great communication in advance. While in the car, he took his time to tell us about the history and the context of the places we were about to visit. He is also a great photographer/videographer and took lovely memories of us while we were focused our different tours. He also made sure to use his connections to get us the absolute best tour guide in the second castle we visited (cape coast castle).
This was a trip well worth it. We started with the canopy walk which was exhilarating. Then afterwards we saw the slave dungeons, which were of course heartbreaking but worth the visit. Moses from Expedition was an amazing guide & driver. He made the long trip fun & we passed by time very quickly. The guides at the Cape Coast UNESCO sites were also knowledgeable & handled the subject matter with care & humility.
The tour was amazing and visiting the castles was a great opportunity to learn about slave trading from many years ago, which was a bitter sweet experience. The tour guide Eben was excellent
We saw many beautiful places according to the itinerary and the guide EBEN was very good and helpful.
