Enjoy the drive from Banff in a modern minibus after your friendly guide picks you up from the meeting point. You'll take the scenic drive to Grotto Canyon in Canmore, a local's secret. On arrival at the Grotto Canyon trailhead, your guide will show you how to put on ice cleats over your winter boots, as well as give you some tips on winter hiking.  From here, you'll start the moderate 2.1 kilometer hike along the frozen creek bed through the narrow canyon to the spectacular icefalls. Walk directly on the ice and on the creek bed floor for a unique view of the canyon.  Your guide will point out the stunted pine forest and hidden ancient native pictographs, which were likely created by Hopi visitors from the Arizona region. Learn more about First Nation history in the Bow Valley. Warm up with hot chocolate and maple cookie snack before hiking back.

2. Canmore: Kananaskis Country Snowshoe Tour

This tour will begin as you meet your guide at the Canmore Visitor Centre. It will be at this location that you will complete your orientation and sign your waiver and medical forms before convoying for approximately 45 minutes to the trailhead. Getting to the trailhead includes driving maintained compact gravel roads covered in snow, and winter tires are recommended. Once having arrived at the trailhead, you will hike for 3.5 kilometers and ascend 984 feet. Your moderately-difficult tour will eventually end at a beautiful alpine lake surrounded by cliffs from the towering and picturesque Mount Chester. Following this summit, you will return back to the trailhead. From there you will drive back to the tour orientation point.

3. Kananaskis Country: 1-Day Hike

Meet your guide at the Kananaskis Visitor Information Centre and complete a quick orientation session before starting your hike through Kananaskis Country. Your journey through the region will begin with a convoy to the trailhead. Once at the trailhead, you’ll follow one of five hiking trails. As you venture through Kananaskis Country, you’ll have the chance to see stunning views of the Canadian Rockies and learn about bear awareness. Along the way, there will be a rest stop for you to relax and enjoy lunch at the front ranges of the Canadian Rockies. Once you’ve finished lunch, the hike will continue before looping back to the starting point of the trailhead, where the tour will come to an end. This hike is a great opportunity to experience the unique flora, geography, and geology of Alberta.
