Starts with pick ups in Santa Cruz and Caniço then Funchal, Start with pick-up from the hotel and drive through Funchal's Capital steep roads. Pass the Eucalyptus and Mimosa forests overlooking the Christmas pines (Black Forest), into the breathtaking mountains of Pico do Arieiro at 1,800 meters. Third Highest Peak in Madeira. The centenary Forest covered by the old trees (Laurisilva) is a must and a short walk along the Levada Madeiras water channels can be taken as an option Short walk of 50 minutes to the viewpoint of Balcões where the birds chaffinch comes to the hand to greet the guests. Taking the old road of Faial overlooking the eagles rock mountain, Stop at the Guindaste Skywalk with a glass platform new highlite in the northern point of the island.(This stop will depend on the traffic and the feasts in the village.) Santana will be the next stop. Visit the town's traditional thatched houses and vines. Make a stop for lunch (not included in the price). Weekends the farmers sell their harvests in the tratitional market. After the lunch stop in Santana, continue to Porto Cruz, passing the sugar cane fields. Visit the only steam rum factory in Europe (with rum tasting) and explore the village. See the rough black sandy beach popular for surfers. Then, travel along the North Coast where sugar cane terraces are still visible. See the old capital of Madeira, Machico, where the first Portuguese settlers arrived in the 15th century, before heading to Ponta de São Lourenço, the eastern point cape of the island.  Dragon Back The tour ends with a drop-off at your hotel. 

Explore the most incredible Natural Reserve of Madeira - PR8 Vereda da Ponta São Lourenço on a self-guided hike. Enjoy a convenient transfer to the start of the trail and get picked up and driven back at the end. Hike at your own rhythm, exploring the eastern coast of the Island. It is a peninsula of volcanic origin, mostly made of basalt, but with some limestone sediment formations. At the end of it, there are two islets: Desembarcadouro Islet and Farol Islet. The semi-arid climate and exposure to northern winds explain the low vegetation and the absence of trees in this place, contrasting with the rest of the island. It is classified as a Partial Nature Reserve heritage site, home to rare plants and a diversified fauna. This hike will take you roughly 4 hours to complete. The elevation gain is not much and the altitude is around 100 meters sea level. Upon arrival, our hike begins along the eastern peninsula of Madeira Island. The trail offers stunning views and unique vegetation distinct from the rest of the island, including Everlasting (Helichrysum devium Johns) and the Ice Flower (Mezembryanthemum crystallinum). Classified as a partial natural reserve and part of the Natura 2000 network, Ponta de São Lourenço is home to several protected seabirds such as Cory's shearwater, the Madeiran storm-petrel, Bulwer’s petrel, and the common tern. You may also spot other bird species like the Berthelot's pipit, goldfinch, and canary. This 6km walk, with an elevation gain of around 100 meters, is of easy-moderate difficulty and typically takes around 3 hours and 30 minutes to complete. As we walk, you'll be amazed by the fantastic scenery, with views of the Deserted Islands to the south and the Islands of Porto Santo to the north, weather permitting. This hike allows you to see both the northern and southern coasts of Madeira simultaneously. Upon reaching Casa do Sardinha at the end of the path, we'll take a few minutes to rest before returning along the same trail. Departure from Marina Quinta do Lorde by Zodiac boat to Cais do Sardinha, where we have the kayaks. The minibus picks you up at an agreed location and time. You will then be taken on a guided tour to the first stop at Pico Arieiro(1818 metres), where you can marvel at the breathtaking Alpine type terrain, while you explore the area on foot. The guide will then transport you slowly to the World heritage site at Ribeiro Frio, where you will be afforded the opportunity to do a short levada walk, through the green Laurel forest. Next you will be taken to Santana, where you can admire the traditional triangular thatched roof houses and where you will be given more time , to enjoy , a lunch break. From Santana you will be transported to Porto da Cruz , where you stop at the old Sugar mill , which still produces rum and molasses. At this Sugar mill ,it will be mostly possible to taste some of the aged rum produced there. The next viewpoint we visit , will be in the region of Machico , which was the first main town on the island, the Portuguese sailors having set foot there , for the first time ,in 1419. You will then be driven passed Caniçal, the island's export harbour, to the Ponta do Rosto viewpoint , where you can see both the North and the South coasts, the airport , the Caniçal export harbour and on a clear day , the neighbouring golden beach island of Porto Santo, all from this same strategic viewpont. Ponta do Rosto , being our last stop , we then head back towards Funchal. At the Guide's discretion and due to safety ,weather and or congestion due to excessive traffic , your Guide could conduct this tour in reverse order.
