The Chichen Itza tour was awesome and very informative. Swimming in the cenote was wonderful, but I would have appreciated more information from the guides on cenote history in general and the Ik Kil cenote specifically. But before we even got to the tour, we had a 2-hour lunch experience, which was a tourist trap and waste of time. The shaman ritual and tequila tasting were clearly attempts to get people to spend money in the gift shops. Please cut this part of the tour out or cut it down to 1 hour. Lunch was delicious. Finally, the tour was advertised as English-speaking and the attendees were split about 60% Spanish speaking and 40% English speaking (not sure how many of the Spanish speakers spoke English as well). The guide spoke in Spanish about 70% of the time, only translating half sentences or a few words into English, which made it hard for the English speakers to follow.

Lunch Was Long

We had to change buses after they picked us up at 7:00 am. The first bus was great but the 2nd bus was dirty. No toilet paper or paper towels. Pee all over the bathroom. It was apparent it wasn’t cleaned before the trip. Alex was a great guide but I felt like he was shaming us into buying their products before we even arrived. Then we had a tequila tasting event before lunch. I wish it had been after lunch because it burned my stomach. The pyramids were good. One hour for the tour & one hour to roam. We weren’t able to cool down after walking in 86 degrees up the air conditioning wasn’t working that great on the bus. The icing on the cake was the swimming in the sinkhole. I wish it had been a bit longer tho.

Complet!

We've been there with our 2 kids (aged 4 and 5) and although the tour on the site at Chichen Itza was a bit long for them (because they don't speak english), it was nice for them overall, especially the swim in the cenote. The bus is air-conditioned, the food was pretty good (okay). Overall a long dayr the kids but a really nice experience!
