Full description
Hardly any other has influenced Lanzarote so much as the artist César Manrique. He was a painter, architect, sculptor, designer, and environmentalist. His vision was a symbiosis of architecture and nature. Start the tour in his footsteps with a visit to Monumento al Campensino, a monument dedicated to the hard-working rural population. See the traditional craftsmanship of the Canary Islands in the small museum and marvel at the impressive restaurant in the foothills of a lava field. Continue into the Valley of a Thousand Palms to the Mirador del Rio. Enjoy one of the most spectacular panoramic views of Lanzarote and one of the most representative architectural creations of César Manrique that unites art and nature. Visit the nearby cave, Jameos del Agua part of a 7-kilometer-long lava tube, which was created by the eruption of Monte Corona around 8000 years ago. Discover Jameos del Agua, a portion of which was artistically designed by César Manrique. Here you will find a restaurant, a concert hall, and a small lake with direct access to the sea where small, white-blind crabs live. At the end of the tour, you will drive to the cactus garden “Jardin de Cactus”. Here you will find more than 1100 different species of plants from around the world spread across 5000 square meters. On the way back you will visit the Fundación César Manrique in the artist’s former residence. See some of his works of art and discover how the artist worked. A large part of the complex is nestled in the foothills of the longest lava flow of the Canary Islands, with unusual structures running through the entire house.

We really enjoyed the opportunity to hear about Manrique from our tour guide Giron. We got plenty of time at each stop to really appreciate what Manrique was trying to achieve. He was clearly a man ahead of his time. I would recommend this tour to art/environment lovers, but also to anyone who is interested in what can be achieved if you have real vision and a belief in making that vision reality.

This was a super day out: I loved getting away from the resort side of the island and into its fabulous and unique landscape, and seeing how much Manrique brought to his homeland. I thought a 9-hour tour might be too long, but it didn't feel so at all: there was lots to see, and enough time in each place. Our Dutch guide (whose name I didn't catch) was fabulous, and did all his narration in English, Spanish and German: amazing! I really recommend this tour.

The Island scenery and the work of Ceasar Marique is absolutly stunning. Our guide ( Irun if I remenber correctly) was very impressive. Switching seamlesly between three languages with an excellent knowledge of the island. The only disappoinment was not to be able to do The Cueva as part of the tour. Would recommend.
