Morning: Elephant Sanctuary followed by Apopo Rat Demining Centre Afternoon: Apopo Rat Demining Centre followed by Elephant Sanctuary After being picked up from your hotel by airconditioned SUV car, travel approximately 40 minutes outside of Siem Reap to the Elephant Sanctuary. Then possibly join others at the sanctuary where first, an expert guide will give an introductory briefing about elephants in general as well as the elephants at the sanctuary. Then make some handmade appropriate elephant snacks to feed the elephants up close. Next, spend time observing them as they enjoy their natural surrounds and play and wash themselves in the pond. A snack and coffee or tea is offered at the sanctuary. Following your time at the Elephant Sanctuary, return to Siem Reap and spend an hour or more at Apopo Rat Landmine Clearing Centre. See how the African Giant Pouched Rat (they are much cuter than they sound and are extremely smart) is trained to detect landmines and unexploded ordinances for clearing. The work at this centre directly reclaims land from landmines allowing it to be returned to farmers and communities for use. See the rats in action and even hold a rat yourself if you want. This is one of the top attractions in Siem Reap and great for families too - kids love meeting the rats. The afternoon tour is exactly the same but in reverse. Visit Apopo Rat Centre first and then head out to the Elephant Sanctuary.
